The EMP museum is next to the Space Needle in Seattle. The building is as fascinating outside as it is inside. The museum is dedicated to contemporary popular culture. For example, there are areas devoted to the works of Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix. There are interactive activities in a sound lab and stage, and it houses one of the largest LED screens in the world. The building was designed by Frank Gehry and founded by Paul Allen in 2000 (co-founder of Microsoft). The Seattle monorail goes through the building. The various surfaces of the building catch the light in a very beautiful way. The picture shows a detail of the roof of the monorail.

Very fine detail. I like the high quality and the colors reflected by the metal parts. Well taken.

You have given us an interesting and informative note and a beautiful image which really is a very fine study in shapes, lines, light and colour; almost abstract in nature.
I can imagine that you must have pondered long and hard on the composition of this picture, either at the taking stage or during editing (most probably both) but you have presented a very finely and pleasingly composed image. The light and colours are divine, the subtle reflections of blue and golden light off the shiny metal panels being most appealing. Perfect exposure and stunning details and sharpness, especially when viewed at its "proper" size of 1300 pixels in width.

Gehry is my love, although I have never seen his buildings with my eyes I know them and recognize whenever I see a picture or a small detail like yours. Beautiful and imaginative as they are they make me think of how hard it is to think out of the box and how narrow minded the Czech politicians are having refused to finance building of Jan Kaplicky's library after he won the competition. http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2009/jan/16/obituary-jan-kaplick
Beautiful detail in excellent sharpness.

A very appealing, artistic composition. I love the metallic colours and the gradations of the colours from the twists and turns of the highlighted areas into the shaded areas.

haha...i certainly don't want to focus solely on ME, but if you look at my Seattle posts you'll find this exact same subject in my gallery :)
I knew what this was from the moment i viewed it, even if it is abstract. Its a wonderful subject to photograph isn't it.
there can be lots of curves, smooth curves, waves, sheen and shine from the reflective surface - its a beauty!
love the colors you achieved and most of all i like seeing the many many bolts and rivets.
awesome post - makes me want to re-visit this place.

I love the richness of the colours here Ann. They are so wonderfully captured and remind me of dark velvety chocolate. The details are quite sublime with the sheen on the metal surfaces punctuated by the rivets. Your note is very good and makes me hanker after visiting the museum.

Great abstract! You chose a wonderful section to share with us. I like the gold color, the curves, and the rivets that are visible. This building looks like a gold mine for photographers. :-)

Un étonnant jeu de lumière sur les façades métalliques de ce musée à l'architecture originale.

would love to photograph this amazing building. It has featured here on TE a few times and it looks like it takes on a different character depending on the lighting conditions. This is a mesmerising and beautiful take - I love it!

You have an eye for fascinating details - hats off to your choice of subject. This almost abstract composition reflects well the nature of the museum. The golden colours look very attractive on dark background.
Royaldevon (41062) 2014-07-30 16:18
The surfaces are beautiful.
They look like burnished gold.
I think it was a good decision to move in close, giving excellent textural and colour details of the surfaces.

It looks really like a futuristic and cosmic architectur, very nice study of the textures and colors (warm golden tones), well captured

Hello ANN, Beautiful details from the Seattle Museum. Yes, before reading your note I guessed it is Gehry's work, some similarities with Bilbao or Los Angeles.
Have you read that Fotopedia is closing in a few days? Sad news, even if I haven't send any photos for quite a long time, I liked the site.

This is a beautiful and graphic, abstract piece. I like the warm copper tones which are subtly cut by the reflected blue highlights. Good work.

Hello Ann,I guess that you could call this a photographers photograph, full of rich tones and gorgeous curves it`s an image to study and savour, simply super photography.
Best regards Les.

Curvy, shiny metal is certainly style of Gehry. While it is quite impossible to estimate the scale of view, neither it's purpose, it does not matter at all. This works perfectly well as an abstract piece of art. You did good job on capturing different tones on those surfaces.
Cricri (122649) 2014-08-06 9:34
Artistique, contemporain, a la fois les deux...la qualité est au top, netteté et couleurs brillantes sont merveilleuses sous le fond sombre

It's a well spotted image with fantastic detail and light control. A touch of rays of blue lights made the image more interesting.. beautiful work.

When I saw this beautiful picture I had to think immediately of the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao. After reading your note I found the link: Frank Gehry.
Fascinating architect, well reflected by this well-chosen detail.

This is a great study of reflections, luster and color. You chose a wonderful part of the building to highlight Gehry's trademark curves and multi-hued metal surfaces. the interplay of shadow and light is fabulous.
