This is the view looking from Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. Please click on the image to see the hi-res version. Olympic National Park is rather large, in fact it’s the size of Rhode Island. My POV is close to 5700 feet (1737 m). The road on the far left is the road that takes you to the Hurricane Ridge Visitor's center, which is close to where I took this. My POV for my last panoramic was on the extreme left of this one. I was so happy that the weather finally turned in my favor. I assembled this panorama from two shots. Again I put this together using Autostitch. I didn't take these with the intention of doing a panorama. I was planning on posting each one individually until I realized I had enough overlap for a panorama. I ran each one through my DxO software, then through Autostitch. Most of the editing here was with the clone brush filling in the edges that fell short from the stitching process. Taken in late afternoon.

Great landscape and lovely shot, i like the curves of the hills and these nice colours, interesting depth also and good choice for this panoramic format.
lewiz (1297) 2006-03-11 12:56
The detail is absolutely outstanding -- your stitching is seamless and the result is so sharp and clear.
The composition is great too... I love the shafts of light and the really wide angle of view.

Very well done!

Hi Mr. Steve, A fantastic view on the top. I enjoy your signature style of grand view to this picture. You did a great stitching job to this panorama image. Thanks for the large version to see the fine details. Nice capture of the layers of view of the mountain ranges with beautiful color contrast. Well Done.

quel contraste entre ce premier plan et les montagnes juste derrière.
L'assemblage est parfait et le logiciel DXO semble très bon !!!
alvaraalto (6177) 2006-03-11 16:29
Beautiful landscape with the green and the light brown mountains and the tall trees in between. That makes a nice composition.

A marvellous color contrast, between the blue sky, & the bare, yellow, grassy, hills. Excellent sharpness, color, & contrast. Congratulations!

Stephen I think I have seen all of your photos in your gallery but this one tops them all. What a wonderful capture of mountian scenery. I love the light shadows on the mountian tops as the sunlight filters through the clouds. Amazing and stunning to view the larger photo. Seems to me autostitch works very well. I get frustrated when stitching doesn't work. You really have a winning photo here Stephen. Congrats to you on this one! Cheers as always.
feather (51130) 2006-03-12 5:14
Fantastic view Steve; I can see what we missed when we were there. There is so much detail in the large version. Considering you did not even take these shots with the intention of stitching you did a fine job.
ramesh_lalwani (3211) 2006-03-12 7:10
Thanks for posting another wonderful panorama.Sure weather has been kind you got lovely colors
nwoehnl (122) 2006-03-12 9:03
A fine photo of the grand landscape, Steve, that absolutely lends itself to being presented as a large-size panorama. Good result with the stitching and nice array of autumn colors all across the scene. The subtle way in which the light towards the right falls on the green mountain slopes makes for a pleasant and authentic rendering of the atmosphere.
PixelTerror (0) 2006-03-12 9:52
A grand and deep view from this good overlooking PoV, I like here the warm/cold opposition between the foreground warm V and the cold dark forest covered background mountains. The clouds are nice too, especially where they remain hanging as on the left side, good stitching, only minor thing to mention are small color variations in the center, most probably resulting from the filter use.
Have a nice week end,
dsidwell (9783) 2006-03-12 10:20
Exquisite view, Stephen! I love how the low point of view adds such drama to the curves and sense of perspective here. Nice colors, tones and clarity, too!
john_c (24662) 2006-03-12 11:09
An amazing shot. This is a very successful stitch job. The undulating folds of the hills really take the eye in the foreground and then one is fascinated by the lines and graphics of the forest clad mountains beyond. Two distinct scenes, with very pleasing hues that blend well together. The dreamy clouds cloak the scene with a pleasant ambience. I like this shot very much, Steve. Very well seen and captured.
Cormac (26563) 2006-03-12 12:05
This is a great panorama, especially considering it was not originally taken with that intention. I like the balance between the foreground and background, and the sweeping curves of the landscape. Great work!
plimrn (21344) 2006-03-12 14:39
Lewis and Fernando best describe the techical aspects of your photo for me, but it's more than that. I feel like I could just fall into that valley it has such great presence in your composition.
You're really motivating me to do a panorama. Actually, I've done three but when I think of the quality of your last two panoramas, I've decided to wait until I can up up with something just a little closer to their quality.
I appreciate your useful note as well
cessy (13647) 2006-03-12 17:12
wow.. truly awesome
the light is so marvelous
the colors are amazing
an outstanding panoramic picture

Very beautiful and very interesting landscape.
Congrats and thanks.
All the best,
aloyho (6798) 2006-03-13 6:56
I looked at this shot a few times before writing this to see whether I have the same feeling as the first. Each time I was attracted by the glow that seemed to come from below the valleys on each side of the distant mountain and the highlighted part in the midground compliments and make it even more attractive. Indeed a very scenic panorama and you have done a wonderful job getting it all together - the stitch and the technical control. Congratulations!! All the best.
robiuk (10807) 2006-03-13 19:42
you're doing great job with these panoramas I have to admit!
The scene is heaven on Earth - really superb colours and details. I want to be there. I don't want to be here.
aznegrao (10316) 2006-03-13 20:14
Gosto desse enquadramewnto, o ponto de vista otimiza a cena. As cores, contrastes e texturas são bem naturais transmitindo uma otima sensação realista.
Um grande abraço.

Hi Stephen! I have to agree with you, the weather played a great part in making this photo wonderful! A very peaceful and relaxing place! I like the green grass in the foreground and the high mountains in the background. Plus the lightrays coming down are superb! Very good stitching, too! rgds.
devimeuxbe (58557) 2006-03-14 8:14
very beautifull landscape with a great light and nice colors.
It's really beautifull.

Hi Stephen - I see you're mastering the witchcraft of photo stitching, great fisheye effect here, the dry looking grass makes a fine contrast with the lush conifer forests in the distance, it must have been a very dry summer I've never seen the grass so yellow in the Olympic pen. looks more like California.
joeydrops (2655) 2006-03-14 19:28
Superb panorama! The scenery is beautiful with the golden grass, wonderful clouds and a stunning view of the mountain ranges. The colours are lovely and details superb. You have stitched the two photos very well. Good composition. Well done!

I really get a feeling of the height by watching this photo.
The colour really outstanding and I like that softness feeling you get by watching it.
cam (9041) 2006-03-16 7:58
Beautiful stiching and the place is really superb.I appreciate those golden rolling hills in the foreground facing the mountain range, which seems to be level with you.
A really good capture.

Hi Stephen - a truly wonderful large post - I like the mix of cloudy horizon and deepblue sky - thanks for sharing - my compliment with a great job.

This is a great image and is a good representation of what Hurricane Ridge looks like in September. You did a great job metering and capturing the image - in the center of the image you can kind of see where you stiched it together, but it still looks great. Thanks for sharing,
chicken (1557) 2006-03-21 15:59
I like how the yellow grass contrasts with the blue-green upper half of the image. The extrem wide angle view also gives a good impression of the "top-of-the-world" feeling of the place. I think I took my hurrican-ridge shot from about the same spot :-)
sarju (5324) 2006-03-21 23:50
beautiful photo to look at man.
wow .. i love this pan shot man ... i love the crispiness and sharpness in this photo.
thanks for the share ... regards ... sarju
AmiBe (6042) 2006-04-03 18:15
the large post is gorgeous, thank's for it.
Good POV, I likt the 2 colors of the mountain.
The sky is well filled by the clouds.
rabani (9645) 2006-04-08 5:05
This is a fine work Stephen. And the stitching you did, is pretty seamless. It is great to capture a landscape when the colors, lighting and obviously the weather effect, comes together.
Didi (57256) 2007-02-07 13:46
I missed this one and I congratulate you for this nice composition.
The large version gives a good attraction this fantastic landscape.
