[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The mountain in the background is what was left of Mt. St. Helens after its eruption in 1980. From our vantage point at the National Volcanic monument, you could still see trees flattened like toothpicks, all lying in the same direction 17 years after the explosion. The tree stump in the foreground is one of them. But the land was healing, and new growth was everywhere.
