Photographer’s Note
These old wooden barns are fast disappearing from our rural landscape here in North America. This one was in the Palouse region of eastern Washington State. I changed this to a B&W with the infrared filter and added some sepia tone (60%). It was taken in late evening and the light was fading fast.

Hi Phil,
I never saw them this close, i was in a rush to enter Spokane on time. I saw them from a distance and took some 200m/m shots of them and was happy with them, but now seeing them up close i regret not getting closer. It's about details and that is exactly what you got here and what i don't have in my shots. I show the landscape with a barn inside, you show the barn only and how i like this. Wonder what's wrong with a colour version, but i can appreciate this also...

Henk

Hi Phil,
I like the slightly otherworldly dream-like atmosphere you've created here, I think due to a combination of the IR filter effect (most visible on the wheat in the foreground) and the state of repair of the barn. It's certainly a very impressive building, dignified in spite of its disrepair - it's a shame that they are disappearing.
Very nicely done.

Hi Phil
This decaying barn is a fine subject for a study. There are so many details to take in - its shape, the loosening tiles, and the textures of the grasses. the monochrome treatment adds to the sombre feeling, though would be interesting to see the colour version too.

Hi Phil,
With the b&w and the touch of sepia this looks like an old postcard. Unusual composition - normally you see much more of the surroundings and the barns take up less space.
It would be interesting to see a colour version, like Susanna suggested.

Phil I think the black and white transition and infrared conversion has made this barn a interesting photo of character. I especially love the highlights in the foreground grass. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Phil,
This old weather beaten beauty is well suited for the B&W format.
The clarity and sharpness are superb.
The fore ground tall grass and the line between the sky and the top of the rolling hill is really striking.

No doubt whatsoever, you are one of the very best at shooting this unique region. The picture is an undisputed beauty, the overal feel overwhelming. TFS! I definitely ought to visit this area at some point in the future... Have a good day, I'll be seeing you soon. I've been overly busy with work lately but catching up with TE little by little.

Hi again Phil
Great choice with how to display this photo as it emphasizes its character. Great shape captured. I like the shape of the barn itself and then all the little square windows on it all around. I especially love how the rooftop is see through in parts. Great textured scenary. Magnificant shot!
Your TE friend,
Tosca.
