I'm sure I'm stuck in a rut, reviewing images I have made in southern Utah, and in the National Parks. I feel a kinship when looking at a landscape of Zion National Park, and I never grow tired of the variations that this area provides. So much of this area is easily accessible for much of the year.
The rich blue skies and the textures and colors of the sandstone make it fun for the eyes.
This image, for whatever reason, I used a fixed focal length lens, which is about a normal lens for DX sized sensor. I slapped the only 52mm polarizer I had with me at the time onto the lens, and used my left hand to keep sunlight off from the filter element.
Sizing and jpg conversion were made in The Gimp. |

Beautiful landscape. You were right about the sandstone textures against the deep blue of the sky, it really makes a pleasant image. It makes me want to climb that peak :).
One thing I'm not sure about is the small green bush in the lower-right corner. Maybe you could have included a little more of the bush, try not to cut in half the second one - just enough to make it a nice foreground to the image.

This photo has a good flow from the foreground to the background. Good colors.

Nice depiction of the rock. Assume that it is in the eastern portion of the park? The wider aspect tends to strengthen the photo. I'd crop out that little bit of tree on the right. Like the shadows of the October sun. Nice.
Hi Dana,
I think I recall seeing some of your image a time ago - maybe have just missed your posts, but I really like this one. The panorama format is good and the deep rich colors are so typical of Zion. And the rock formation flood back memories of our visit there in May last year. TFS. Gerald
