Photographer’s Note
In the U.S., Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of every November--a time to rest and be thankful for our many blessings.
Because Thanksgiving falls so near the end of the year, the day after Thanksgiving is traditionally the first day of the Christmas season.
All of my five years in college, at least one of my brothers or sisters was at school with me, so we started the tradition of driving the 45 minutes to Salt Lake City each year the day after Thanksgiving. We would window shop throughout the day (too poor to really shop), eat an early dinner at the Lion House restaurant in downtown Salt Lake, and then walk the half-block to Salt Lake's Temple Square to see the Christmas lights turn on for the first time of the season at 5:30 pm.
After spending an hour or two seeing everything (or getting too cold to continue), we would head home for hot chocolate and cookies.
This one is from the archives. I wasn't there this year, but my brothers and sisters went and carried on the tradition, and they will for several years to come. A happy holiday season to all of you, celebrating whatever traditions you hold dear.

Hello Clark,
This is a beautiful holiday photo. I like the POV, and the way the temple is framed by the branches. The tiny red lights are great. Happy holidays to you, too!

Hi Clark,
A fine symphony of colors and lights in the darkness of the hour. Quite busy but pleasing and you managed the light well. Well done and TFS. Gerald

A great perspective. I'm hoping we can somehow make it this year. You got the color of the temple right under some extreme color lighting.

Hello Clark! These are nice lines and you know how to tell them and the picture goes so well with the Season. Family traditions are so important and we should carry them over but many times we begin to forget them, running around for other things, at least where I live. I keep some ... like baking xmas cookies :)))) I like your photo work, we are right in the Season, and I guess this makes a good picutre ... Enjoy, Barbara.

Hello Clark,
What an amazing and attractive image full of festive lights and wonderful night colours. I like the fact that the colours are restricted to black, white, red and blue. Composition is excellent with just the right mixture of lights and architecture. Very appealing....well done.
Cheers Grant

Belle atmosphère de magie de Noël, avec un bâtiment avec une architecture assez étonnante. Superbe.

Excellent POV and a good choice to photograph at the blue hour. The church is well framed by the branches and lights.

Wow, what a beautiful shot! The lighting on the building is great, and is perfectly balanced with the Christmas lights on the trees. This is a very nice piece of work - hmmm... I'm getting some ideas from this! Well done!

Hi Clark, this seems like heaven and aprtly like the Star Wars too. I love the superimposition of lights and hues. The perspective gives it a lovely tilt

Clark,
This one really stands out. It's a congested composition, with deep, solid colours, yet one which fundamentally works, and captures just the right ambiance, without being cliched. No doubt you could sell a stack of greeting cards carrying this image.
Cheers
Colin
