Photographer’s Note
Real Madrid vs. Real Salt Lake
Location: Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City Utah. Site of the 2002 Winter Olympic Opening Ceremonies. Also where the University of Utah football team plays their games (that's American football, not soccer).
About the Photo: This photo was taken during half-time as the second half substitutions for Real Madrid and Real Salt Lake warmed up. This is the first soccer game I ever attended and I was quite excited to see David Beckham (he's actually warming up on the field in this photo, but you would need a magnifying glass to see him), Roberto Carlos, Raul, Van Nistelrooy, and the rest of the super star Madrid squad. Salt Lake gave Madrid a surprisingly tougher game than anyone expected, but they still lost 2-0.
The two goals for Real Madrid where scored by Van Nistelrooy (penalty kick) and Robinho. You can read more about the game here at Real Madrid's website.
Side note: Our local news reported that David Beckham walked around down town Salt Lake with some other members of Real Madrid, and they went virtually unnoticed. I wonder how it felt for Beckham to walk around and not get recognized? At the game however I did see more Beckham jerseys than all the Real Salt Lake jersey’s and T-shirts combined.

Hello,
Soccer in USA are you sick?. Better to see a rugby match (personnal point of view).
Any way the POW of your picture is great, with nice colours and good light management. The depth of fiel is great too.
Best regards

Hi Ryan!
Soccer in the USA with so many spectators,I think that`s unusual.
Great shot with fantastic colors and excellent sharpness. You had a fantastic POV and the sky is wonderful.

That's quite a view, and a spectacular location for any sporting event. The mountains provde a dramatic backdrop, the sunset colours are excellent.
One thing that I notice immediately here is the narrow playing field - it looks so out of proportion to the kind of pitch that Real Madrid would normally play on. Very little width for the wingers! But correctly designed for American Football.
Great shot, better to concentrate on an overall view like this than on a closer view, given the distance from your seat to the pitch.

i wonder how DB feels to be out of the ENGLAND team too? Great to see how well attended this match is - the States did so well in the world cup this year - would have been great to see them go further - the image is just excellent and as others have said, what a setting - fantastic sky and colour.
best wishes kev

Hi Ryan. Wonderful capture, you have done well to balance the exposure of the crowd and stadium against the sky and still get all the colours spot on as well. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Paul.

Hi Ryan,
A superb capture and a fantastic POV. You have managed to include about everything in the picture. You could see almost all spectators, the perfectly green ground and the wonderful sky. The light is also superb. A brillant job!

Hi Ryan,
A lot of spectators, and that for a sport that isn't that common in the US.
I myself am not a big fan, but seeing Van Nistelrooy now playing for Real is very nice to see.
Your picture is better than the game itself it self in think ;-)
Great light with high detail. Love those colorful clouds that are coming in.

Great composition Ryan! And the late warm colors are also amazing. This has an incredible depth and I love how you played with space creating a very breathable scene. The definition is amazing and the inclusion of the whole field is a must here. Love it!

Absolutely under rated photo off yours, Ryan.
These colors, the POV, the atmosphere of this event is there - quite obvious in the picture.
How was the game…? I don't care. We're here to asses your photos Ryan, not a Real Madrid team with Beckham.
And there is a lot to asses.
Thanks, pal.
Keep that shutter hot.

hi Ryan, a huge one there ! As a fan of sports i couldn't miss this one (even if i'm late ;) ). All is good, the stadium is awesome, and even if it's a sport picture it's also a marvelous landscape picture due to the sky part
Excellent !
(if i wasn't at 101 pic in my favs, this one would have been in it !)

Hi Ryan,
wonderful! The enthusiastic crowds in the full stadium - and the dramatic sunrise over the mountains in the background!
How much did you have to pay for a ticket? And how much do you pay for "normal" matches of Real Salt Lake City?
BTW: the link doesn´t work anymore.

Hi Ryan,
very good sports shot, though there's hardly any sport to see ;) very good colors and DOF. The colors in the clud at the right are superb. I am really glad you enjoyed the game and could see Real Madrid live. I do it quite often in Madrid and it really is a great experience! TFS, Rafa.

wow!
that stadium was fully packed....!
guess it was THE attraction, there...
what i like about this image is the difference compared to the photos from the european stadiums... here you can admire the construction of the object, romantic sky (man, how badly it fits the event like a football game!...:-)) etc... while the atmosphere of the stadium in madrid made me look only at people gathered in the stadium or the field itself with all the players (surely, the latter drove more of my attention...;-))
