Photographer’s Note
This is Provo Canyon, looking to the southwest near sunset. This area is known as the cascade ridge, because of all of the cascading waterfalls along this area. This is near what is known as upper falls. It is a beautiful area to view with the conifers and the deciduous trees. In the fall, the colors can be quite striking. This year some of the trees are showing more orange than normal.
I was wanting to get down the canyon to photograph the sun setting, so I just grabbed this shot, no tripod, and with the lens wide open.
I used a polarizing filter to help saturate the colors and remove some unwanted scintillating highlights.

Hi Dana,
it always puzzles me (to put it mildly) to see good shots such as this one apparently fading into oblivion with little or no recognizement.
The "issue" is usually : nothing really to focus on. Well, I personally appreciate nothing really to focus on!
I think you managed to capture a magnificent view of these mountains (an area in Utah I ain't too familiar with, but I plan to change that in the future), laying down a wonderful palet of early Fall colors. Great POV and sharpness, annex perfect PP.
Have a great sunday,
Ciao,
Fulvio.

A nice slice of mountain here, Dana. The colors and contrasts are striking. The diagonal lines in the composition work well. Nice shot and especially so under the conditions. A bit overexposed at bottom right, but good detail throughout for f/4.5.

I'm surprised to see the sun on the hills. Whenever I can make it, it seems the area is in the shade so I end up looking the other way. Nice shot of a beautiful area. Love the shadows. Now if you could get some nice fluffy clouds in the sky....
