Photographer’s Note

Thought I'd share something a bit more local with you. This is the atrium to the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University. I've spent more hours than I care to reveal studying in here. This night, however, I left my campus job a few minutes before sunset with no intention of studying, just getting a nice shot. I don't think I was disappointed. The sunset wasn't particularly stunning, so I used this shot from a little later (about 25 minutes after sunset).

With an enrollment of over 30,000, Brigham Young University is the largest church-owned university in the United States, being owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The library has about 98 miles of shelfing for over 6 million items in its various collections, according to the Library's website. You may be asking yourself, "Where do they fit them all?" The glass portion is just the entrance; the library in fact is 5 stories (two of which are underground), and the main portion is the building to the left of the atrium. There are volumes on every topic imaginable and in multiple languages. It is open to the public, is quite well-organized, and is staffed by very knowledgeable and helpful staff. The sheer size of the library and the expertise and service of the employees helped launch it to the No. 1 spot on the Princeton Review's list of the top university libraries in the country for 2004, beating Princeton (No. 2) and Harvard (No. 4), among others.

This shot had quite a green hue to the light coming from the atrium, so I tried to make it look a bit more natural. I also ran the shot through Neat Image to remove some noise from having to use a higher ISO speed. Otherwise, no modifications at all. Let me know what you think.
