Monument Valley provides perhaps the most enduring and definitive images of the American West. The isolated red mesas and buttes surrounded by empty, sandy desert have been filmed and photographed countless times over the years for movies, advertisements, and holiday brochures. Because of this, the area may seem quite familiar, even on a first visit, but it is soon evident that the natural colours really are as bright and deep as those in all the pictures. The valley is not a valley in the conventional sense, but rather a wide flat, sometimes desolate landscape, interrupted by the crumbling formations rising hundreds of feet into the air, the last remnants of the sandstone layers that once covered the entire region.
This photo was from about ten years ago. Scanned and levels auto-adjusted with photoshop.

Already from the thumbnails the photo is very attractive to the eye. A spectacular landscape with harmonious light, great color contrast and a beautiful sky. It goes to my theme 'more fav.pictures'.
kiwi_explorer (12209) 2007-03-26 16:06
The stark color contrast of this photo is superb. For a scanned image, the resolution is quite good ... especially the sky which has the same quality as your recent Nikon shots. You must be running out of photo stock because you're now into scanning old photos ... time to go for another holiday:) Have a nice day, Bay. TFS

Your photo of this classic view seems so true that it brings back great memories. I remember a day much like this; so I especially like the clouds in the excellent sky and the bright foreground colors. I visited this place when I was eleven with my father; we met his brother & my cousins there. It was such a special trip that it has always been a special place to me. HLJ, Pat

Hi Danilo. Yes no place says the American west like this place does. This is one of those places I need to go. I thought this place was in Arizona? I'm not sure though. But the saturation is great. I'm guessing you used Velvia 50 here. Wonderful shot Danilo!

An excellent result, the image has many sides-many things they are very good.
The colors layers-almost yelow red nad after the green, the almost lila rocks and the nice blue sky with the very interesting clouds give us this wonderful result, very very good worked here.

Firstly I must commend you on the excellent technical quality of this old scan, Danilo. The compoisiton is of course a 'classic' from this part of the world, but you have executed it perfectly with wonderful colour saturation that doesn't look unreal. The polariser works particularly well in this shot. Cheers . . . David

Bellísimo paisaje con grandes contrastes. Me encanta la luz y los colores.
belido (19934) 2007-12-20 2:55
this view has something different than I usually see in here. Don't know if it's because of the color treatment or those foreground plants. The fact is that I like this a lot. Great work!
