Photographer's Note

Whenever director John Ford wanted to film the cavalry or Indians crossing a river, he went north 25 miles from Monument Valley to Mexican Hat and the San Juan River, exemplified in "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon". Here is located another magnificent area of sandstone buttes and mesas - Valley of the Gods.

In addition to another western movie favorite filming location, Valley of the Gods also has scenes from Forrest Gump (1993) and To Wong Foo (1994). The Valley also had two "Doctor Who" tv episodes filmed there - "The Impossible Astronaut" and "Day of the Moon".
