Orange Drift Photo

Photographer’s Note

I chose the name for this photo for a couple of reasons. First, because of the obvious orange color, particularly for the "drift" of sand at the bottom of the frame. And second, we just had a snowstorm here in New England. I'm about to go out and clear my 300 foot driveway of snow, which has drifted all over.

what we had in NYC (and probably still have, but there's no way on earth I'm going out to check) was heavy rain mixed with ice and falling sideways, courtesy of some nasty winds. needless to say, I'd give a lot to be in this nice and, more importantly, dry place your're showing in your photo :) love the colours, the orange contrasts great with the green, makes me think of clementines in Christmas trees :) I like that you've left out the sky, I find that this tigh composition creates a very strong sense of presence. excellent details, very nice work.

First of all, the colour of this is simply gorgeous, that unique blend of orange and pink that is characteristic of Bryce Canyon. That smooth line along the bottom adds a lot to the picture as it makes a very nice contrast with the vertical lines of the trees. Well done!

Nice image. The contrast of the green trees against the red cliff face is the best part of the composition.

It reminds me very much of Red Mountain, Arizona. Bryce is north of the Grand Canyon and Red Mountain is just south of the Grand Canyon between Flagstaff and the south entrance. It also has a reddish cliff face fronted with growths of Ponderosa pines. The closest I have that shows the similarity is this picture:

I wish I always had time to view and critique all your photos. You bring something unique to each landscape. I'm always amazed at how you control the colour palate in your images. Great work as usual!
