Shadows and Light over Bryce Photo

Photographer’s Note

I've never seen such a range of earth color tones as I have photographing out west. It really becomes evident when the light gets low and shadows fall like here at Bryce Canyon. For me I think the highlight of this shot is the green area of forest lit at the far left mid-frame by the falling sun. It just seems to add that little something extra in terms of color fidelity to the shot.

Man, you sure spend a lot of time outside looking at fantastic landscapes! Are you as serene an individual as an outside observer might suppose?
You certainly take your time setting up great shots. You have good equipment and control it well.

Well Good Evening Michael. I have to say what a wonderful capture in lighting at Bryce Canyon. Very good control with the highlights and shadow details in the variety of highlights in the frame. This is such a delight to view... excellent work!!!

Your ND filter paid off here and allowed us to see detail in the FG that might otherwise be lost.

This has to be one of the most interesting shots I've ever seen of Bryce. The sunset light doesn't fall on the famous pink rocks, but the view of the distant hills still in that low angle sun, while the foreground is in shadow, is very beautiful. You're right that the small area of forest on the left that is just catching the sun is wonderful, and adds a lot to the scene. Well done!

I don't get tired of seeing photos from Bryce Canyon, since I've never been there I get to see beautiful shots on this site.

This is another winner, with the shadows and light. The sun is emphasizing the colours in the rocks and forest.
