Photographer’s Note
I agree, it is by far easier coming down than going up again but once you started one of these hikes nobody can actually stop you anymore and you want to see it all, you wonder how it looks around the corner and you say to yourself “another ten minutes” and sooner than you think you are involved in a big hike with maybe no water and not the best shoes either but as a tourist you forget all the warnings, what you have read when you were at home sitting in your living room going through the travel guides page after page, making little notes, you read about snake bites, about flood warnings, about carrying around enough water, sun protector, a good jacket for cold nights (it was in the car) :)))) and I probably ended up with some blisters, the ones that never let you in your shoes again once you get out of them. Ouch. Yes I am one of THESE … I out myself … LOL.
Just some weeks after me, my boss was standing in the same park and he sent me an email probably checking if I was not sitting at the Lake of Zuerich having a good time (Christoph ich an gschaffet …) and he wrote to me that my travel guide was really great and that they would follow my notes that I had made in my guide - and I thought what notes? I always mark things but not necessarily meaning that I had ever been there … I still have my job but I am not sure what he thinks about my taste (I also underlined restaurants I wanted to eat in etc. etc.). So much about exchanging books ;)))
Bryce Canyon like many other parks have wonderful hikes for all ages I guess and I forgot the name of my trail but the park brochures help you out. We had a great time on this trail by the way, a pleasant evening with temperatures just right, unforgettable.

Beautiful soft light too.

Liebe Barbara,

hi Barbara,
another one of your great notes to go with a great photo. love the colour, it feels like the place is made of shining copper, and for once what looks like a fairly harsh light is exactly right. people are just in the right place to illustrate the scale (judging by the backpacks they have enough water). great shot, I like it a lot.
best,
Kristine

Hi Barbara,
That does look like a bit of a strenuous hike up. I like that the shot is all in one colour but different tones, and the people going in different directions look so small against this large rocky backdrop giving a wonderful sense of scale to the image.

Barbara ;-)
No not packing...yet. Busy with the last things to organise before leaving home. I only can leave when all is set and done...strange habit of me ;-)
I'm expecting all kinds of weather in NZ, it also can be very rough in the south west with heavy rainfall and storm, so only some shorts is not that wise ;-)
But after all thse years of travelling i never bring that much with me. What i forget i can buy there, no problem. Camera, lenses, laptop, passport, tickets, creditcard....and i'm off ;-)
You know, i have probably more than 800 high class Bryce Canyon images, most of them parked at stock agency's, but not a single shot that comes even clsoe to this one. In mine there is always a blue sky and/or a green pinetree inside. Never saw Bryce as this before....how nice and i have to admit i like this a lot. I could not find the right words on your previous picture to say anything useful to it, but here, yes this is what i like to see....very nice work.
Kind regards,
Henk

Hi Barbara, some how the people moving in different directions create a tension point in the middle of the photo which can be distracting. One thing that you have managed to capture very well with this image is the scale of the place... it gives an overwhelming feeling. Nice frame.

Fantastic color, great depth with your perfectly build point of view. Climbing visitors to different directions, walking paths, the darker tones of corridor are just spectacular. Amazing clarity and sharpness in attractive color of famous canyon. Congratulations.

Hi Barbara:
hahaha...I have this exact shot from my last trip to Bryce, but yours is much better. Nothing beats the Navajo Loop trail. Have they cleaned up Wall Street yet? (Wall Street on the trail--we're still working on NY's Wall Street, haha). There had recently been a major rockslide when I went, so you couldn't do the whole loop.
Anyway, sharpness is fantastic, and I like the way the people give the shot perspective--those walls are huge!

Good morning, Barbara.
A shot I attempted many times, with mediocre results... by far not as easy as it looks. Well, it seems like you've found the perfect settings for this one. Light, color and definition are just wonderful! The Navajo Loop... we'll sure be back down in here! Have a good day, I'll be seeing you. HUGS,

Hello Barbara,
Fortunately, you did not dedicate your time to write things about your boss and his bad habits at the end of your book ;-)) It would have been the more surprising way to loose your job :-)
Let's come to your photo: a very special place, the colour of the rocks is very special.
I like the way you isolated people and rocks. Being in such an environment and feeling so small in comparison with the landscape is probably a great experience.

Hallo Barbara,

A nice composition, Barbara. I like the fact the pair and the single person are heading in opposite directions--it fits with the winding path. You included the right amount of the cliffs to create context without turning the people into small dots. You're right about how we tend to not be in a mood to bother with the "rules" when we're tourists. A couple of small technical suggestions--first, it might be good to enhance the contrast just a bit, and second, the light is very red since it's all reflected off the rock; maybe you could play with the colors on just the people, so they aren't also so red. Regards, Ken.

Barbara,
I remember this trail very well, I did this hike so many times 5 times now, I think. I love how the sunlight really illuminated the cayon, even though it is completely in the shadow. It is the steepest part of the trail, and I usually start from here. I wanted to come here in two week to see the winter scene, but I cancel because of my work, I will have to wait till later to do a winter Bryce Holiday. The switch back of the trail is really impressive and it looks so sandy than I remember and more beuatiful than I remember. Happy Sunday.

Hi Barbara, as I read your Note I was laughing and nodding in agreement: the climb up is always the worst. But to the photo: what an amazing shot, you must be delighted with the result. The texture - and colour - is stunning. I like how you've included the people as this gives both a colour contrast and some scale to this vast canyon. Well done, Lisa.

Hi Barbara,
Weird all red place. Erosion on very dry climate gives quite different appearance. I can imagine how all the loose rocks would be washed away if there was more rain. Special perspective. Looking at those curves it was quite a climb (Much more than 'about 5 minutes' on Klangweg).

A landscape in red, punctuated by three people. Indeed it looks that the hike is strenuous along the slopes. The walls seem to be vertical. Light is not the best but quite adequate to show us this amazing place. Once again an excellent note to boot

It's some years ago now since we were at Bryce, but I know it is very difficult to bring something new from there. You have achieved that with this image. Those people are so important in the image for scale and interest, and the stripes of path in the foreground speak about the winding path. Excellent shot with gorgeous red rock colour and texture galore!

Barbara,
