Photographer’s Note
3 photos today..
This a view of the Great Salt Lake from Antelope Island state park, more specifically a view of Whiterock Bay from the top of Buffalo Point, most of the shoreline was frozen, this part of the lake was not yet. In the distance is the formidable air pollution from Salt Lake City. 18mm. focal length, 20 minutes before sunset. I have other photos with no close up foreground, but I like this one because of the animal tracks in the snow (rabbit probably, not antelope in this case).
Workshop No. 1 is a similar view from 12 years ago in summer.
Workshop No.2 is the sunset, with a technical photography question.
The largest of the Great Salt Lake's 10 islands, Antelope Island is part of the Utah State Park System. Visitors can reach the park by boat or via a causeway reopened in 1992 after being submerged for a decade by record-high lake levels.

Hi Tan:
Beautiful scenary. Perfect for a warm cup of tea between photo and photo. I like the fogg in the mountain at the end of the coast. I think it was a nice moment for you, and you´ve achieved to transmit this feeling in the photo. Take care.

Hi Tan,
What a great pictures with two contrasting and still complement parts.
The clear white in the foreground and the misty grey background in the beautiful late sunshine.

For me this is one of those shots where you feel to be part of the scene.I like the POV and the way my eye is led round until I reach the lake and the horizon is lost in the fog.Excellent.

Hi Tan,
Just wondrous how the image seems to drift off into this infinite diffusion .. love the light .. the foreground is just great .. in addition to the tracks the sense of wind and motion from the lay of the plants and flow of the snow is great
beautiful!!!
take care,
John

I love the animal tracks in the foreground, and the wide angle captures the bay very well. I've been to Antelope Island many times, but I've never gotten a very good photo of this bay. I posted a photo from the causeway that I took only three days before this photo.
Take care,
Ryan
P.S. The spots in the workshop photo are caused by dust or other debris on your camera's sensor. You'll have to buy a sensor-cleaning-kit to get them off safely.

Hello, Tan--
Another nice piece, i really like what you've done here, using the strong diagonals to frame the background mountain. The heavy atmosphere/distant haze remove the horizon, giving it a surreal feel.
Thanks!

Hello Tan,
In FG we can see so well the texture of snow and tracks left by the animals, because of the beautiful light. I like as well the opposition between the FG and BG.
Cheers,

Hi Tan. All three shots are gorgeous to view. I do like the summer posting comparison with this winter setting capture. A very well taken photo with excellent lighting just before the sun sets.
Workshop No 2 questions. One thing for sure about those three dots in the sky. The thin layer of glass in front of your sensor has caused those shadow lines in your photo. Because the sky is a solid color it shows up. This means your camera needs cleaning inside.
The glare around the sun? I do know that as the light enters the lens it tends to bounce around alot inside. Call it light diffraction inside the lens has caused this halo effect. I do know that the 10-22 lens is a very good quality lens. Exactly how this one was caused I am uncertain. I do hope this helps you some. Cheers.. and keep up the good work Tan!

Hello Tan,
Nice image, being worth looking at (the thumbnail is not impressive as the image, maybe too much foreground?).
Nice mountains in the background.

HI Tan.As others have already said the dots are probably dust on the sensor. I have a few on mine which only show in the sky areas but I use the healing tool in PS to remove them. You might avoid the halo and get more sharpness by using a smaller aperture.

Hi Tan - a good view over the lake, a pity about the smog from the city but there's still a nice reflection on the lake's surface. The WS post from 1995 is great as a comparison, although I do prefer the main version with it's snow covered ground.

Very pretty, Tan, both foreground and pretty background in fantastic (yet very different) light; overall a mysterious mood, also due to the lack of a horizon here, regards, Daniel

Hi Tan
What a stunner. The snow here adds some great definition to the landscape and the tracks in the snow add interest in the foreground. I like the way the headland merges into the mist - the atmosphere is rather special. Good to see the WS which shows how it is worth revisiting a place at different times.

Hi Tan
Lovely shot & good to compare this with the summertime post in WS...Like the contrast of colours here from the wrm in the BG to the cold snow in the FG...the lack of horizon creates a wonderful sense of unknown..
I think the spots in your sunset shot are from the sensor...needs cleaning for sure inside the camera. The halo effect is I thought due to diffraction effect, nothing to do with the lens, I presume

Hello Tan,
What a fantastic shot. I love how the water seems to end up in the sky, it is like there is no horizon which is really neat. Excellent colours and lighting with beautiful details. Great composition and great work, Tan!

Poetic and magic light, from this hidden bay. The mist in the background having the moutain disappearing is what I like the most. The light is really great.

A very nice shot. The foreground is quite interesting. This landscape is very beautiful.
Correct for the spots, its comes from dust on the sensor.

Hi Tan
Pollution Here ? It's very strange composition.
Veery interesting difference of contrast separation in the foreground.
What an ecology damage for Earth !

Hi Tan,
Impressive landscape and good perspective, I like the depth of the scene and as the contrasts in in background are degraded, the light has different tones and creates a very interesting atmosphere. Good work and thanks to share.

Hi Tan
About the picture.. one word, fantastic...and cool!
about the questions:
In my opinion.
1)
In the infrared wavelengths there's some red light and a small amount of the other colors. So an object at the emperature pof about 3000º C does glow with visible light, and its color is roughly white with a red tint. This would describe the red hallo. This sort of radiation is called "thermal radiation."
I think with the WB you can try to shoot with incandescent light option..
2)
The spots seems to be in your sensor.
You can use a digital SLR camera sensor cleaner vaccum kit..I hope this could be usefull to you..

Bonjour Tan,
Amazing landscape depth in this landscape.
I like how the fog reduces the DOF.
A very nice one, regards,

Hi Tan,
Well composed with very good foreground light and an interesting misty background. This is a good example of taking advantage of the best light and concentrating proportions accordingly. I like the way the tufts of grass interlace in the patchy snow. The rabbit tracks enhance. Well done. I hope you've been getting more sun in San Fran than up here...
