Hello Peter
You have choose the right one to make an idea about Painted Hills,to see a overview of the place.
Looks more like a painting to me,not a photograph. From your point of view I can`t have an impression of the size,on Pat`s shot, yes,I can.
The sky looks a little odd to me,as you mentioned in your note, light was miserable and I can understand it.
Looking forward to see your next uploads.
My kind regards

Hello Peter,
It look like you are very active going places and taking awesome shots. This place is beautiful. Truly I haven't see a place that is similar to this one. The coloured rocks give the view an excellent focal point. Excellent panorama of this wide area. Cheers :-)
Roberto
Hi Peter,
Very interesting to see it from this pov. I would never expected it would look like this from above. And although i prefer the pictures with the view from the ground, this is a very refreshing style and pov which makes it a very interesting picture. The colours are heavy, i do not complain about that, although the blue sky looks like you have given it something extra. I like bold colours, when there is colour we have to show it, period..!!!
600, means 40 very good one, looking forward to see them ;-)
I know you were standing far away, but that 3.2 seems a strange choice when you using a tripod.
Regards, Henk

Finally I see this place with all the landscape around ! Very interesting. The light here is blessing the main subject !
Dark clouds and sunlight are the best conditions for this kind of pictures.

Hello Peter,
There are many incredible photos of Painted Hills on TE(Steve's Painted Hill photos are great too), but by yours I am able to see the whole landscape and how it looks like generally.
You've used the unexpected light geniously.
Colors are great.

Hi Peter,
Edge of the shadow seems to follow perfectly the front of painted hill. Just stunning effect. Light and colours of the landscape intensify each other.
No wonder you had difficult choice, 600 pics in a weekent is a lot.

Peter, it seems that you have endless patience, I am sure I would have long before moved on to something else. It is obviously worth the wait the shot is awesome and almost too much to comprehend. From previous posts I can only guess that the area seen in this shot is huge. Great capture.

Wonderful. I haven't seen such a wide view of the Painted Hills before, so it is an excellent introduction to closer shots. It was worth assessing the cloud cover and your gamble paid off. As well as the central section being bathed in beautiful light there are some great contrasts in the hills behind. What's the white in the foreground? snow?
I await more to come.

yeah, yeah, pete
i WAS one of 'them' drumming my fingers. sorry, it was so loud it was disturbing your concentration all the way across the great expanse of the US ;)) ok, back to business at hand here: love the shot, friend! seems like a true tectonics study: almost as if the land-mass was sliding down from the north-east and opening up in that sun-lit wound in the frund. love it! before i read your note: i had the same question as henk. why 3.2??? but i understand (especially with that 3-stop soft edge filter that slowed you down to a crawl). also, since you do not seem to have any close foreground objects, the 3.2 aperture seems to have produce a reasonable DOF at infinity: all what matters seems to be sharp. oh, and can i add the banal WONDERFUL COLORS!? ;) but they are...
warm regards,

Pô, pede uma comissão ao departamento de turismo. Tenho certeza de que suas fotos já fizeram um monte de gente ir a esses lugares. Você tá fazendo uma bela propaganda gratuita!

Lovely shot again, Peter. Gorgeous light to cast a warming glow on the scenery, and to accentuate the vivid colors and geological layers of the formations. The surface profile almost looks like ocean waves, and looking at the shot gives me a very calming and soothing feeling. Good work again in imagery and writing.

Hi, Peter -
At first I was going to suggest you had over-saturated the image, then I looked again and realized the hills really are painted like that. (The sky too, I suppose.) You have the patience of a photographer (or Job, same thing). A fascinating study of a less-knwon part of the US.
Best,

Hallo Peter! Barbara.

Hi Peter,
lots of GREAT stuff in your gallery! I'll choose this one for today, not because it's your latest post but simply due to the fact it's one of the very few locations I haven't visited yet out West. I've been to Oregon several times before, but never in this neighborhood.
Your chosen POV is fabulous, so are colors and light. The latter is truly unbelievable!!!

Thanks for sharing buddy. Once again : my compliments!
See you soon,

Bonjour Peter!
When you get to such a vantage point and that light presents itself like that...your heart starts pumping...you forget about all you know about exposure...you hands become sweaty...you just shoot without thinking about composing the shot...But that's for normal people. You? You kept your cool and handled it like a pro. Is that what you are now?
I think it is a bit saturated...Sky is deep blue, which suggests a late evening shot (that and 1/30 at f/3.2 with such a fast lens)(f/3.2 is not classical in landscapes...I guess the light was very low?) but the rock is lit as if the sun just started going down...so warm. Something is not fitting. but it is beautiful...what can I say?
Best regards!

Hello Peter,
I think that perhaps you should have titled this “anticipated light” or something like that. You did really well to see that the conditions might improve and to be in the right place at the right time. This really is a fascinating view, I had previously only seen photos from ground-level. And of course the colours and light are spectacular. Look forward to seeing a few more of your 600 shots!

Hi Peter,
Fantastic work based on your good planning and hard work. Good photos are MORE than good luck!! This is quite a unique POV looking down on this formation; even without the snow. The hills are highlighted perfectly in that last crack of light, the stormy sky is wonderful, the detail perfect and the snow surreal.

Hello Peter
Quite I while I've been to your gallery & as usual I missed some stunners. Having seen Pat's picture from the Painted Hills, I was wondering when we would see yours. I really did not anticipate this high POV shot, but knowing you a bit now, you'll always surprise us with your showcasing of a place, quite often portrayed in this site, very differently. I presume this would be a hill from which you took this shot & you waited for the sun just to illuminate the painted hills outcrop. Is the entire area called Painted Hills or only the outcrop? Looks somewhat similar to Uluru from this high POV, except of course the distinctive colours. Fantastic shot indeed!

Dang man! This is a fabulous shot! Probably the best of the Painted Hills I've seen, because in addition to the classic red and orange, you've got some deep blues, some white, and even some faint green.
