Buena Vista Ferry
This little 4-car ferry is the most famous attraction in the tiny farming community of Buena Vista, Oregon. It crosses the Willamette River between Polk and Marion Counties. At this crossing the river is about 720 feet (220 meters) wide.
The ferry has been in continuous operation here since 1851. It was founded during the great covered wagon pioneer migration that followed the famous Oregon Trail. Nearby Independence, Oregon is named for Independence, Missouri which was at the start of the Oregon Trail. This was at its end.
It is one of only three remaining ferries crossing the Willamette. Today mostly farm equipment, bicyclists and passenger cars with travelers out on a weekend outing use this ferry.
It is closed in winter when the water is to high and the current is to strong. It shuts down occasionally in summer if the river level dips to low. |

Great shot with nice color and good composition. Light looks good despite the clouds.

Hi Steve,
for a moment I thought of Buena Vista, CO. (I've been there, LOL!!!) but the Arkansas River doesn't allow, no way, ferries of any kind out there. You can do some rafting, though!
Lovely tones of green and Oregon skies in a well balanced composition. And the note is... GOOD, it actually goes without saying!
Cheers,
Fulvio.
Steve,
curious to see that there are still ferries operating in Oregon. While driving down the Columbia Gorge with Steve Warnstaff to get to Painted Hills I was pretty amazed of how many huge bridges span the river. OK, Willamette is much smaller and yet even more the surprise to see that there isn't a bridge.

Hi Steve,
Good composition, and interesting note.
But, it seems that the colors have strong green notes, haven't they?
TFS
Steve, this is an interesting photo, the muted colors shifted toward green/blue make it look very painting or Art-Deco like. Itneresting how this ferry (service) survived all this time without a bridge replacing it. Nice capture.
