Photographer’s Note
At the end of the Oregon Trail at the farm of Philip Foster. He opened his farm and store at the trails end in hopes of making a profit from the near-starving settlers that reached Oregon. He did well. This photo was taken inside his barn. The barn dates from around 1860, 15 years after the first US settlers started arriving. Wagons were for the supplies that you brought with you. If you could walk you did, 10 to 15 miles a day from Missouri to Oregon, or about 2000 miles. My Great Grandmother remembered when she walked into Montana behind their wagon.
