Photographer’s Note
We had a small TE meeting this last weekend in Mitchell Oregon with just four photographers plus a very nice patient lady from Switzerland. We visited both the Sheeprock unit and the Painted Hills unit of the John Day Fossil Beds. This however is neither unit. The Burnt Road Ranch is located about 10 miles from the Painted Hills along the John Day River. It is a picturesque setting especially in the evening when this was taken.

Hello Phil,
Too bad you didn't include the top of the rock in the background. A nice image nevertheless with a warm tone to it. Details standout and the whole atmosphere of this scene is very peaceful. Nice work :-)

G'Day Phil,
I noticed the top of the hill was cut off - but for me it did not detract one little bit from what you were capturing (the rustic barn). Great POV, rich colours, good framing, warm photograph. I wanna be there - it looks inviting.
Well done and TFS.
Regards from Australia,
Graham.

Hi Phil,
Lovely warm late day light is seen over this old ranch.
The giant bluff makes the ideal back drop for this western beauty.
The fence is in better shape than the barn which is probably not the priority in such a dry climate.

HI Phil,
Love these old barns and farmsteads - a nice one here. But I'm thinking, had you had the opportuniy, it might have been good to step back a bit and over to the left abit so we could see a better profile view of the barn and the the whole mountain and a bit more of the landscape surrounding the barn - just a thought. Hello Phil,
Nicely composed, saturated brown tones, barn, corral, horse details, and the intriguing rock formations in the background.
Good job,
Ray

Hello Phil,
I really do not think the time has passed by that place, except for the deterioration of the roof, looks like a genuine photo of the American West.
Singular capture with good details.
Best wishes,
Charo

Hello Phil,
How would you like to live beneath this huge rock looming over you each and every day and night? SAs I took this image last year myself, a bit closer and minus the horse in the corral, to capture the rock and barn you would need a 5mm lens taken at 100 feet away, just for those not knowing the scale of this Burnt Rock above the ranch.
An image that tells a story of life in the high desert...

Hi Phil,
Your excellent focus is highlighted by the late light to show lovely detail in both the rocks and the barn,
I am really sorry to have missed the TYE meeting; looks like you had perfect weather, I love intermittent storms. They're much nicer than boring flat blue skies.

Hi Phil. Nice name for the place-echoes of the past. One expects a lonesome cowboy to mosey past or a stagecoach to stop by in order to change the horses and for the folk to get some grub. I miss the old westerns. Lovely light and nicely composed. Regards. Klaudio.
