Photographer’s Note
The Oregon coast is one of my favorite places. The scenery the ecology, the towns, etc., make it all a wonderful place to journey. I have been wanting to visit again the autumn, and found some images that I wanted to share.
The Oceanside area with Three Arch Rock and the birds, which you can see in the air around the rock (these are not dust spots), is quiet, secluded and wonderful.
This location has a very different persona at different times of the year and day. This image was made in the morning, with the soft light from the high clouds and humidity.
I wanted to compress the depth somewhat, so I used a slightly long lens for DX sizes (50mm) to compress a little, but give it a natural look. There is physically no more room to use a longer lens at this location without changing the perspective tremendously.
No blurry waves and cotton candy ocean, I chose a shutter speed high enough to stop motion and camera shake from the wind and no tripod. Exposure was carefully watched to make sure the scene wasn't over exposed. I chose F10 to give enough DOF to cover the scene, I had to guess where to set the focus for the hyperfocal distance.

Hi, Dana -- I really like the vibrant colors, the sharpness, the texture, and the note that explains what you were up to. An interesting approach to deliberately freeze the motion of those ever-busy waves. The result is quite fine, though. Nice composition and POV. Your subjects really stand out against the background and the DOF is just right.
