Photographer's Note

Here is another view from the point at Ecola Park, from the other side of the tree I used to frame the previously posted photo. I used to have a poster of this view hanging in my house that we bought when we went here on our honeymoon. This is one of my favorite parks for catching great views of the Oregon Coast.
There are hiking trails here that I have never went on because the nearby Indian Beach always draws my attention and we spend most of our time walking on it instead of the trails, or taking photos of the areas beauty.

A little on Cannon Beach's History:

A report of bountiful whale blubber lured Capt. William Clark over Tillamook Head in January of 1806. Food was scarce at their Fort Clatsop campsite, so expedition members were delighted when some Clatsop Indians brought them fresh blubber.

He set out with a small party. Among the group was Sacagawea, who begged to go because she had never seen the ocean.

They named a creek for the Indian word for whale, pronounced "ee koll i."

"The grandest and most pleasing prospect my eyes ever surveyed," is the way Clark described the scene.
