Photographer's Note

I was just leaving the beach for the day when I passed by this woman, dressed in her traditional attire, doing the same thing as myself…taking pictures. A relatively uncommon sight in the Pacific Northwest she definitely stood out from the crowd, but the setting seemed very fitting and natural none the less. I basically envisioned her on the beach of her native homeland with the ocean backdrop provided, so I thought I’d snap a shot or two.

With the soft sunlight, muted beach tones and no other tourists around, her yellow sari and multi-colored handbag was a burst of color in an otherwise empty scene. I was far enough away that I had to extend the focal range, and even with a higher shutter speed I experienced some camera shake, unfortunately it didn’t turn out as sharp as I had hoped. I'm sure she wasn't going to hold that same pose long enough for me to set up a tripod either, and still have it be spontaneous.

Hello Jason,

You took these lady as photographer on a perfect moment when she takes her picture.
I don't know of you everyday see in America ladies in these national dress on the beach.
Excellent composition, nice presentation.

My congratulations to this magnificent shot!Just love this strong contrast between the woman wearning traditional attire and so excellently contrasting with the muted colors of the background.Vivid yellow color of her attire makes the shot really eye-catching.I like also the way you blurred slightly the background.Well composed and framed scene.

I like a lot this picture . Some of us go to India to take pictures of women in traditionnal clothes . And here , we can see this indian woman taking pictures in USA . This is also an excellent composition with a good use of teh DOF .

The musterd-yellow sari stand out in exquisite contrast to the beach scenery, jason.
Well spotted and swift reaction to the situation.
The background seem as interesting rocks on the ocean, worth a photo of it's own.

Globalization... Your 50th post from US looks like a photo from India, Jason.)) Why not? Well seen. Good idea to place this woman in yellow to this grey background. Impressive contrast, another interesting archive picture.

E questo conta in questo composizione, più della ricerca dei canoni dei terzi o la perfezione della ripresa. Hai colto un momento ed una scena particolare. La signora veste in maniera tradizionale ma non disdegna i prodotti di una tecnologia moderna, una delle più grandi contraddizioni dell'India e non solo. Sei stato bravissimo nell'aver colto l'attimo e ancor più bravo nell'averlo riproposto alla nostra visione

really like this shot and a little disappointed, like you, that it is not as sharp as it could be. The pose and originality gets you my votes though! The bright and isolated colours set against this dramatic backdrop are compelling and classic. Well seen and presented.

Hello Jason,

This is a splendid photograph which really stands out from the crowd and is all the more appealing to me because it's taken on a beach sharing the same name as myself!

The lady in her bright mustard yellow sari stands out fabulously against the much plainer and less colourful background and her multicoloured bag adds to the appeal. I like the lady's pose with her camera and she is also perfectly placed in the frame.

Despite what you say, the lady looks remarkably sharp to my ageing eyes, especially as she is set against a nicely out of focus background. Gorgeous colours, perfect exposure and very well seen and taken.

This is a really beautifully seen and perfectly executed shot, as you say, her colours really burst out of the whole scene, and the backdrop is perfect. I always smile at the thoughs of photgraphing the photographer :)

At first glance I really thought it was in India:)!
She's perfect in such scenery. Her yellow sari and the colourful bag contrast vey well with the surroundings. Taken on the right moment! Well seen!
