Photographer’s Note

If you have been following the uploads from my US trip (still in the early stages) you will know we stayed with Pat & Larry for part of our time in Oregon. Just look at the view they have from their backyard! This is the Deschutes River at the back of Pat & Larry’s cabin in the Deschutes National Forest. Imagine waking up to this every morning!

As we were still operating UK time it was no problem to be up by dawn. Already in early September the nights were cold but the days were hot, so the morning sun created this steam on the river. I took some shots on and near the Mount Sheep Bridge, from where this post of Pat’s was taken. Pat has a theme on the Deschutes River

After breakfast we set off for Crater Lake.

Kath,
This is a fine shot with the fog hanging over the river. Your composition is nice using the winding river to lead the eye into the shot. The lighting and colors are fine with excellent sharpness and DOF.

Oregon is a beautiful state, I especially love the coast. This would be a great scene to look out on each morning, a very nice picture, good timing. I love the morning fog and pov. TFS

Hi Kath,
Fog rising from the river is beautiful. Here we see that often in August when water is still warm, but air is cold. Very peaceful looking place. Nice sky with those contrails.

Wow, I want to live in a place like this, Kath. What a great experience it must have been, to stay with Pat & Larry. This fog over the water makes a magical ambience but the sky is also enhancing, including the white traces. Love it.

It must be wonderful to be guided by good TE people to roam about areas like this one. The fog on the water at early morning is not easy to be encountered and you have captured it very nicely here with the sun light coming on.

Hi, Kath. You've captured a nice morning mood with the steamy river making part of the image a little hazy. The contrast with the blue sky works well and the curving bank leads us beautifully towards the house in the background. The branches on the right give a good depth to the picture.

Hello Kath,

Wonderful composition of land, water, trees and sky to present a photograph with a well established context.
It is an uplifting shot with the grass, the water, the light and the trees, all reaching for the sky! The cabin is snuggling in its own little steam bath!
The light is just wonderful! What an experience!

It's not easy when you shoot against light, be it early morning light as this one. The mist rising from the river creates quite an interesting effect. The slight haze created by the light, more evident on the trees in the BG, creates a fine contrast with the blue sky & the amazing jetstream like cloud. You sure had a great time with Pat & Larry, moreso in these areas which are their stomping grounds.

I was showing your gallery to a colleague when I noticed I hadn't written anything about this one. It may not be as spectacular as most of your last US photos, but it is so pleasantly relaxing... What a view to have from home! Pat and Larry are really lucky! You captured very nicely the glowing fog, giving the viewer the sensation of the early morning.
