Photographer’s Note

This is my favorite bridge for taking picture of the Deschutes River. A sunrise view and a Sunset view were both taken from this bridge. It's just a narrow one lane bridge on a dirt road but it's quite near my house, so it's easy to run out and get a shot when ther light is nice.

The Deschutes River arises from a spring in Lava Lake. There is huge underground water source that is believed to be fed by Mt Bachelor snow. It forms Crane Prarie and Wikiup reservoirs upstream from this area. From a few miles above this site is a 30 mile smooth water paddle. Benham, Dillon & Lava Falls are class IV rapids to Class VI drops. People do run them but they are considered extremely dangerous.

Below the falls, the town of Bend showcases the river as its front yard.

Hello Pat,

I'm not sure what this area look like but from what I see here I think this is prime hiking territory during Autumn. The bridge look small in this landscape but is still a focal point. Nicely composed image with the tall grass taking on the foreground. Light is very good. Thanks Pat.

Hi Pat,
What a lovely soothing silver blue sky seen above this charming old bridge that crosses the lovely little river. The misture of green, gold and brown grasses is very pleasing and peacful. Oregon is a very scenic looking state.

I have not seen you for a quite long time or, have I been missing your photos? Anyway, here I am saying that you got a beautifully lit sky with at least four different colours on it. The bottom section is also very nice with that low bridge looks pretty too. Well done.

I was thinking how autumnal it looks before I noticed the date. There are some wonderful tones in the grasses and a very pretty sky with all the dappled clouds. Nicely composed image with the river leading the eye to the bridge. I'll get to see this for myself in 5 months!

hello Pat,
I really like the sky in this photo, it feels like rushing water and nicely compliments the river that leads the eye into the photo. also, the simple composition is very effective in emphasising the bridge, and the golden grass is the great way to create a contrast with the cool pastel colours of the sky. very well seen and presented.

i feel, the bridge has similar high opinion about you ;)) you must be its most favorite neighbor, for taking such glamorous pictures of it. anyway, a lovely place indeed. i like the warmth of the foreground against the cloudworks in the sky. beautiful.

Hello Patricia,
Without looking at the camera i knew it was an older picture. Your newer stuff is much brighter in color and brightness. But although this is much darker, it's the color of the grass in combination with the blue sky what makes it interesting.

Hi Pat,
I remember perfectly the sights from this bridge to which you refer in your note.
This landscape is really beautiful, natural and seems to be preserved well, and is very well caught in your setting, in a good photographic work.
I like much the light and the color of the image, and the graphical balance of the elements.
Is a great shot.

I am glad thah you can take a quick break and post some TE photos. It is nice to hear from you again! This is beautiful country and obviously a sportsman's paradise. I like your sillouetted version of the evergreen trees in front of the gorgeous clouds. The grass and the catails are especially beautifu1. What a great spot!

The colours of the grass are very soothing. Well composed with the river leading us in & the bridge is a strong element in the compo. As are the dappled clouds in the sky. A nice note with 7 links to your pictures! I think two of them links to the same pic.

Inspired by the title I was looking for some animals for my sheep theme but I was disappointed, hehehe!
However the scenery is encouraging, a lovely view indeed and I can smell the fresh evergreen and hear the breeze whistling in the branches...
A well balanced composition with good autumn colours!
