High deserts are above 2000 feet/600 m. In this area most of the water comes from snowfall, Mt Bachelor still has 150"/330cm of snow. In fact it snowed today. If you're in the area, visit the High Desert Museum. The living history program allows you to see how settlers lived in the 1880s. You might be able to churn butter, help with cheese making or chop wood. 'Pioneers; tell stories about their lives.
