Photographer’s Note
High deserts are above 2000 feet/600 m. In this area most of the water comes from snowfall, Mt Bachelor still has 150"/330cm of snow. In fact it snowed today. If you're in the area, visit the High Desert Museum. The living history program allows you to see how settlers lived in the 1880s. You might be able to churn butter, help with cheese making or chop wood. 'Pioneers; tell stories about their lives.
A part of ther Great Basin High Desrt is just South of here. The basin is defined by a watershed that does not drain into the sea. It is bounded by the Sierras and the Wasatch Mountains and includes the Great Salt Lake, in Utah and Mono Lake in Califoirnia

Hola Pat,
Good to see you posting again. I missed you excellent images. I see you are still getting snow in Oregon, just like we did this weekend. This image is excellent with the diagonal of the fence nicely framing the foreground. Good light, sharpness and colours. The view is pristine around here I see. Thanks Pat :-)

Hello Patricia,
It's been a long time, hope you are doing fine and found some new energy to keep on posting. This one must be close to home i suppose. The area looks wonderful, but more impressive is the light you caught here and the depth that lies in to the image. The river leads us to the far background were snow is still lying on the peaks and on top of that a great blue sky with a majestic cloud, how wonderful.
Colors are crisp and bright with excellent sharpness and i see a new baby D300 in your hands....well, that can't go wrong ;-)

I was just on the point of mailing you to see if you were well and you beat me to it with this fantastic image. The light is excellent and the detail, depth and clarity are incredible. The touches of snow and patches of red all add a diferent dimension to the scene, which is topped off by an amazing sky with wonderful clouds. Good work

Pat,
what a nice surprise to find some new post from you here. Is this your view from your oregonian home? First moments to get acquainted with your newest baby - D300? At least it is a perfect replacement for the D200 that was stolen during your last Europe trip.
A wonderful landscape that with the vertical frame allows the inclusion of the little pine tree in the foreground, the meadow with the slow flowing creek in the middle and finally the snow capped mountain in the background. What mountain is that anyway? What a beautiful light and great clouds.
I hope that we will have exactly these conditions next weekend!!!
See you soon, Peter

Hi Pat,
It is a pleasure to see your last composition, full of light and wonderful colours!
The whole is very sharp and the vertical frame functions very well, adding more deep, if possible, to the view.
Very good job!

Hi Pat,
This one is really a beautiful composition, well organized, with many elegance and with a natural and magnificent wild landscape.
The quality of the image and of the colors is extraordinary, I suppose that the D300 has something of responsibility in the capture, though your photographic skill is very high.
It is a photo very, very beautiful.

Hi Pat,
The foreground fence and background sky are perfect natural frames for this beautiful view of the gentle river valley. Great light with lovely clear colors and exacting details to this wonderful high desert shot. Your polarizer did a fine job on this dramatic sky.

Wonderful shot, Pat. Truly wonderful!
THE LIGHT is awesome, so are those colors, depth of field and definition. But it's the atmosphere you managed to capture, what really turns this picture into something different... it oozes Oregon! Awesome!
Have a great day, I'll be seeing you around.
Ciao,

Hi Pat,
From everything that I have heard, Bend has a climate very similiar to Denver's, perhaps a little milder. The coastal part of your state has gorgeous scenery, but I couldn't handle weeks of overcast weather at a time. I need sunshine! I am willing to bet that you have an abundance of wildlife here. The Bend area is one of the best kept secrets in the USA. This is a great shot and gives me an excellent feel for this ecosystem. Well done!

hello Pat,
love the colours here, I've always associated the rust and golden brown with desert. beautiful textures, and the light snow makes the scene quite surreal for me in a fascinating kind of way. great use of fense in the foreground to create depth. excellent photo, my compliments.

Hello Pat -
Good to see you back and I do hope your mom is doing better. This part of the life cycle really sucks!
A very nice image that dramatizes the extremes of the high desert. And the fact that there are woodlands in the high desert that are really nice. The stream leads us into the image and the snows adds contrast. the wonderful light though makes it worth photographing and with standing the cold. Well done.
Thank you fro sharing.

Hello Pat,
Attractive sky, those cloud formations are attention magnets!
Excellent colours and details in the late autumn landscape, and the image seems to be pin sharp in all distances...
The diagonal railing makes a fine foreground interest, and helps creating a fine sense of depth!
