Photographer's Note

Early this summer returning to Texas from our road trip of the Grand canyon we drove through New Mexico. We ran into a big surprise, the White Sand Dunes. In the summer heat of close to a hundred degrees, the sand was so cool that the kids ran barefoot. According to my kids, this was the best part of our trip.
"Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert, creating the world's largest gypsum dunefield. White Sands National Monument preserves a major portion of this unique dunefield, along with the plants and animals that live here." National Park Servie.
