Photographer’s Note
San Geronimo Church
Taos Pueblo, New Mexico
Taos Pueblo, which is just over a mile north of the main town of Taos, NM, is home to 2000 people of a Northern Tiwa speaking Native American tribe of Pueblo people which have inhabited this pueblo for over 1000 years. Currently, only about 150 people live in this pueblo full time.
This is the entranceway of the front of San Geronimo (or St. Jerome's) Chapel. It was built in 1850 to replace the original church destroyed in the War with Mexico. A majority of the Pueblo practice Catholicism, while the ancient Indian religious rites are still practiced alongside it.
I was struck by the contrast between the white paint and the blue sky that day.

Hi Amber,
summer holidays finished ? Welcome back with this white and blue composition. Seems to be on some Greek island at first sight. The background is important here as a counterpart.
Good job, cheers Chris

Hi Amber
You have a beautiful exposure here in that there is lots of detail in the white wall. My only suggestion would be to have waited until the people had moved but maybe you could crop the right side and it would not hurt the image at all. I hope your dissertation went well.
Well done.

Hi Amber,
A very nice presentation of white against blue with the little white cross being the focal point. Sort of too bad that there are distractions both through the arch and on the right - for me takes away from the sacredness of the place. Great shot and TFs. Gerald

Hi Amber.
The colours are great. I like them. And the idea of the building as a little frame...smart.
Well done!

Hello Amber -
Technically this is a well executed image. The one point that strikes me is that the whites are white not grey or over exposed. I think the composition needs some work. Looking at the image I feel something is missing and I am wondering why the entry way was cropped in this fashion. The people are a bit distracting and a crop can resolve that issue. I do like the balance between the sky and the white wall.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Amber. Your exposure is good but I really think you should have gone for a much lower POV to push that cross up into the blue sky and avoid the distractions around the entranceway. That would have made an excellent graphical presentation which unfortunately you have only half-succeeded with this. Cheers . . . David

Very nice colors and texture detail. The people on the side are a bit distracting but you did a good job with light and color management.

Hi Amber,
magnificent composition, you have played skilfully with the graphism and the chromatic contrast of this so white architecture and the cross on the nice blue sky.
The frame is very good, it has a good angle and a good perspective, and the view of the town through the door is a good aesthetic detail.
I like it.
Friendly regards,
Josep
