Photographer’s Note

Divide and Conquer
Route 4, Jemez Springs to Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA.

For us, this was the scenic route to Santa Fe, up and around the Jemez Mountains. According to my map reading/memory this is Valle Grande.

My own fondness of this image, comes from the differing greens of the grasses either side of the stick fence. It really is like that - and makes a slightly surreal point of emphasising the power of this flimsy divide.

a nice image, the perspective by the fence is here here, even if it do not do the prefect diagonal.

Hello Colin! Very clever idea to include the fence. I find it personally always difficult to show vastness and I guess the fence leads us in to this grass land out there, on the other side, so beautiful and empty. Hello Colin -

Simple yet effective in showing the wide open spaces of New Mexico. I am sure a lot of people think of New Mexico as a dry desert when in fact it has many different vegetative zones and environments. This also points out the old adage "...that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence..." I think the composition is spot on with the fence leading into the BG to explore the trees, the mountains, and the sky. Well seen and accomplished.

This is a fairly ordinary subject but somehow you've made it very appealing and even added a sense of intrigue. The fence adds a sense of perspective and depth, the DOF is excellent and I am left asking what exactly is the purpose and meaning of this fence?? Good colour and contrast too.

Good landscape view with wooden fence that increase depth of your photo. I like rich tones of green under spectacular sky. Clarity, colors and sharpness are superb. Congratulations.

That huge swathe of grassland is like a sharp arrow firing into your shot. And those clouds seem to want that arrow to be reloaded. A lovely anti-clockwise shot. It just seems to keep leading...

Hello Colin,
It is a beautiful landscape and the composition is flawless!
Only one issue and that is personal, as the big black frame prevents my eyes to easily slip into the scenery...
Otherwise all elements are in the right places, and the light is magical!
