Photographer’s Note
There are dozens of open pit copper mines in AZ and NM. I took this last week from Commercial Airlines. Somewhere between San Francisco and Houston. I have no clue, but I did have a clean window..commments welcome

Hi Chuck - from the thumbnail I was expecting this to be a meteorite crater, but obviously not! Great detail here, especially the way that all the ridges are visible (I'm guessing these would be access routes for truck & other machinery).
A flight between SFO & Houston would be crusing at 35,000 feet or thereabouts - so well done on getting such a clear shot & indeed a clean window! :)

How do you get a clear shot like that with a free dirty filter
Just wondering what it be like to actually standing down there and photograph that scene
