Photographer’s Note
Photo was taken recently at the White Sands National Monument located in Alamogordo, New Mexico, USA. The “sands” here is not the typical sand we see in beaches or in the desert, instead, they are gypsum crystals that have been broken down into tiny particles over thousands of years.
The park is located within the White Sands Missile Range Testing Area, so the park is sometimes closed due to missile testing.

Hi Alford,
Looking at the thumbnail I thought this was snow... but then I read the title and I knew I was wrong. This place is absolutely awesome and you've managed a very good graphical shot with strong constrast bewteen the white sand and bleu sky. A place I'd love to visit one day!
Have a nice day.

Hi Alford,
This is a beautiful landscape. Quite unusual.
The high contrast makes the pic punshy and attractive. But IMHO, the saturation has been pushed too high and the blue sky lacks some "natural flavor". Besides, I am not convinced by the centered bush in the frame. Maybe finding another POV would have help to get a nice diagonal.
I still think there is a great potential in here, that's why I comment on it ;0)
Cheers,
Pris.

Interesing landscape, but I think you had some problem with the white balance...

Hello Alford! I have been in the area myself this summer but did not make it that far south. It is a huge huge State as we know :) I will certainly put it on my wish list. Amazing how the little plant makes its way up through the sand adding an interesting element. I love your sky work, maybe a little bit on the heavy side but on the other hand it makes an interesting contrast to the sandy part. This is good. Take care, Barbara.

Excellent colours and contrasts! Good composition also. The vertical lines of the dunes work well with the seemingly vertical clouds.

Très belle image avec ces rides sur le sable qui créent une composition très graphique. Seules la touffe d'herbe trop centrée au premier plan me semble géner un peu mais les couleurs sont splendides.

Hi Alford,
Nice sharp photo. From the thumbnail the sand looks like snow. Very impressive place.

I like the contrast of the colors, so well saturated.
A nice composition, with high sharpness.
The ripples onthe sand make a nice geometrical pattern
