200 million years ago the Ghost Ranch area was located close to the equator, with a warm monsoon like climate and heavy seasonal precipitation. This included a fine habitat for dinosaurs. Plate tectonics and continental drift moved Ghost Ranch farther north to its present location. Today a famous paleontological site here preserves Triassic dinosaur fossils.
Being a big movie fan, I am impressed at the list of flicks with scenes filmed on Ghost Ranch:
Lone Ranger (2013)
Cowboys & Aliens
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
3:10 to Yuma (2007)
No Country for Old Men
All the Pretty Horses
Wild Wild West
Wyatt Earp (1994)
Earth 2 (tv)
The Last Outlaw
And Now Miguel
The Light that Failed (1939)

That's an impressive list of movies, and goes to show how iconic this place is! Its a beautiful natural view, so no wonder so many film makers are drawn here. An impressive peak, and again the tones of the earth are beautiful
