The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American twin-engine, straight-wing jet aircraft developed by Fairchild-Republic in the early 1970s. The only United States Air Force aircraft designed solely for close air support of ground forces, the A-10 was built to attack tanks, armored vehicles, and other ground targets with limited air defenses.
The A-10 was designed around the GAU-8 Avenger, a 30 mm rotary cannon that is the airplane's primary armament and the heaviest such automatic cannon mounted on an aircraft. The A-10's airframe was designed for survivability, with measures such as 1,200 pounds (540 kg) of armor for protection of the cockpit and aircraft systems that enables the aircraft to continue flying after taking significant damage. An excelent picture collected, Eleu, I can see what the pilot is doing... and always wondered how high you were in relation to the surrounding while taking those photos?
Great photojob done, my cong.'s.

This is a fabulous shot of the Warthog! To get this angle from ground level, as with many of your other airplane photos, it must have been circling. Isn't the Warthog earmarked for retirement within the newest plans military budget cutback?

This is a good top view of this A-10 with flaps down and spoilers up. Not too graceful but very deadly for anything moving on tracks below.

now thats a gun! But then again if you're designed to take down tanks and armored vehicles you're gonna need a heavy artillery.
I remember playing with this plane as a boy, I had a couple of models of the A-10.
Not the best looking plane, not even close, as its sort of chubby and placement of the wings looks a bit strange. but there's something about the A-10 that draws me to it.
cool shot of this subject

That's lethal tanker buster! dramatic shot and a fantastic war plane. ya never hear it until it passes! Timely shot with slight tilt and the lovely sun drenched, the grad sky gives a nice touch just to break up its plain colour. Brilliant shot, Congrats. TFS
