The B-29 Superfortress is a four-engine propeller-driven heavy bomber designed by Boeing that was flown primarily by the United States toward the end of World War II and during the Korean War. It was one of the largest aircraft to see service during World War II and a very advanced bomber for its time, with features such as a pressurized cabin, an electronic fire-control system, and remote-controlled machine-gun turrets. The name "Superfortress" was derived from that of its well-known predecessor, the B-17 Flying Fortress. Although designed as a high-altitude strategic bomber, and initially used in this role against the Empire of Japan, these attacks proved to be disappointing; as a result the B-29 became the primary aircraft used in the American firebombing campaign, and was used extensively in low-altitude night-time incendiary bombing missions. One of the B-29's final roles during World War II was carrying out the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. (From Wikipedia)

So a plane like this was the responsable for one of the most tragic happenings of man's history... In spite of its bloodstained past, this a very nice picture of the plane captured with good sharpness and the helix in movement! The city is a great background to the scene! Very good job!

Very informative note and good illustration. Yes I remember these historical events with B-29 on the stage.
Tomorrow I'll try to get a helicopter flight around New York.
Greetings from NYC!

I love these old propeller airplanes. You wouldn't believe my first flight in my life (during my childhood) was in similar airplane. I still remember that the door was open during flight (however the altitude was low and the flight maybe 30 minutes). I like your photo, excellent snapshot before landing. Well done. Thanks for posting this beauty with wings and propellers.

Superb, very dramatic and well presented shot, has history speaking from the shot itself! Lovely, the silver and blacks work really well with beautiful composition. A shot worthy of the proud grand matured lady. Congrats

Another great aircraft documentary shot, Eleu! Your note, as usual, is quite informative. This airframe has had a very interesting (and expensive!) history -- see more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFI_(aircraft).

A picture-perfect landing captured very skillfully. I love the motion blur on the propellers.

It is still very impressive plane, when fly, and 4 engines roar.
This one in particular looks well maintaind and still airworthy.
T/O seems to be on a more flatened angel, slow to gain altitude, as with a heavy load .
Fine taken shot with Las-Vegas on the beyond..
