The white tiger is a recessive mutant of the Bengal tiger, which was reported in the wild from time to time in Assam, Bengal, Bihar and especially from the former State of Rewa. Compared to normal colored tigers without the white gene, white tigers tend to be somewhat bigger than original tigers, both at birth and as fully grown big adults. Kailash Sankhala, the director of the New Delhi Zoo in the 1960s, said "one of the functions of the white gene may have been to keep a size gene in the population, in case it's ever needed." Dark-striped white individuals are well-documented in the Bengal Tiger subspecies, also known as the Royal Bengal or Indian tiger (Panthera tigris tigris or P. t. bengalensis), and may also have occurred in captive Siberian Tigers (Panthera tigris altaica), as well as having been reported historically in several other subspecies. Hi Eleu, Wonderful white tiger. he looks so proud. i remember that when i was in las Vegas I also wanted to see it. so we went to Mirage, but then we were completely lost making kilometer around with one-hand bandits. After that we didn't enter any hotel, whatever could be there inside. Excellent shot, we can see here even his whiskers.

Good morning Eleu,
A majestic look this tiger has, like he was in some palace rather than in a zoo.
Excelent picture to my taste, even behind unreachable cage.
Enjoy a nice weekend,

What a magnificent beast. Even in a zoo setting he looks so proud. It is quite difficult to take good animal pictures in a zoo in order to make them look naturaly but you achived that very good. Still he would fit better in an indian setting.
I know, I am somewhat spoiled in this regard, having lived in Africa for some time and thus was able to see the animals in their natural habitat.
There is something I wanted to try for a long time now and your picture provided the excellent opportunity for that. I hope you don't mind my playing around with your photo? See the result in the workshop.
Have a great sunday

Great looks on the Royal Bengal tiger.Nicely focussed to capture the king of the jungle in a regal posture while taking rest.A little bit of more color could have made the photograph more attractive.TFS
