Photographer's Note
On the Nevada end of the Hoover Dam sits two winged figures called “Winged Figures of the Republic” by sculpture Oskar J.W. Hansen. This is one of the two figures. The winged figures are 30 feet high. Their shells are 5/8” thick and contain more than 4 tons of statuary bronze. Each figure rests on a base of black diorite flanking a 142 ft. high flagpole. The figures have weathered to a green patina, except the toes, which are a soft gold due to all the tourists rubbing them for good luck.

I adore these sculptures and congratulate you on a fine foto of this one. They are magnificent works of art, but they are very difficult to photograph in any way that conveys their grandeur (I have tried!). Thank you also for not touching up the glowing toes in post-processing -- those who have been there know that this is how they look, as the natural tendency when at the spot is to reach up and touch the bronze, taking the patina off the toes!
