Photographer’s Note
I pulled out one of my older photos of previous trips to the USA, before I lived there.
This one was taken in the summer of 2003 and I uploaded it because I've noticed that a lot of photos of Hoover Dam on TrekEarth show the lake behind it, but not really much of the Dam.
This shot was taken out of the parking structure which is built into a mountain on the Nevada side of the dam.
It's a scan from a paper photo, so the quality is not as great as I would like it to be but I would still say it's rather decent.
The brown building with the copper roof is the visitor center where guided tours start. The two tower looking things between the mountain on the left and the visitor center are the water intake towers. There are two more on the Arizona side of the dam. Between those towers and the visitor center, you can see some of Lake Mead and notice how low it is by the calcium deposists on the rock. It's even lower now. The power poles are at an angle because they reach down to the bottom of the dam where the generators are housed.

Hi Ruben,
as you say not the greatest in terms of quality but sometimes the subject matter is more important. The pylon is very dramatic, at first I thought it was either being put into place or it was on the verge of collapse! but after reading your notes I know now. A good capture.
Regards
Stephen
