Photographer’s Note
This young Navajo Fancy Dancer is a member of the Bob Family Dancers from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Fancy Dance is a tribal tradition. The dance movements simulates animallike movement--quick, strong, and accurate. In fact, they resemble those of a horse. In the Fancy Dance, the dancer bucks and lurches to the rhythm of a low and vibrating drum, covered from head to toe in feathers, bright sequins, and a rainbow of ribbons.
