Glacier Sunset

This is the view from Swiftcurrent Lake at sunset. Illuminated is Mount Gould, one of the more famous peaks at Glacier National Park. And to its right is Grinnell Point.
If you look closely at Mount Gould (and the backside of the Garden Wall) you will see a black band running horizontally along the ridge. This black band was formed when magma surged up from the earth through the layers of rock, but came to a point that it could not break through. It instead flattened out like a pancake and was stuck. It's very interesting to see this mark throughout the park.
This site on Swiftcurrent Lake is also where Many Glacier Lodge sits. This beautiful, and quite old lodge, was built nearly a century ago to entice vacationers west. Frankly the lodge reminded me of The Shining. |

Hi Brian,
The colors are great! The contrast between the closer dark area and the back mountain were the sun is reflecting is very pretty! Also like this soft freeze water.

Hello Brian -
If you want "The Shining" come to Rocky Mountain NP and visit the old Stanley Hotel in Estes Park "The Shining" was filmed here. There are so many photogenic place in Glacier NP it is hard to make a bad image - just be there in good light and it almost magic how the images turn out. Like your earlier image you were there at the right time and this image demonstrates that. Well done. I see your were at Glacier early in July - the snow looks to be well off were the wildflowers out yet? The flowers are amazing at this park my wife and I were here in 2003 early in August and they had a late winter so the flowers were late and they were wonderful. Well done with this image.
Thank you for sharing.
John
