This is another photo taken in the Gallatin Range in southwestern Montana. This was taken after the first snow of the year in late September. It's a high mountain lake surrounded by these spectacular mountains.

Very nice composition here, I like the reflexion in the water and shooting those trees on the left is a very good idea. However it is a little blur to my sight. I did a little workshop and I hope you'l like it ...Well done Peter! Gaétan

I do as well like the composition. Same observation, it's a bit blur to me and areas covered with snow were washed out over compensated?). Nice place though...:)

I heard that Montana is paradise for photographer but could not imagine, until the sight of your picture.
Had you shot this with wide-angle lens, I believe the result is much more attractive.
I am looking toward your further postings of Montana, Peter!

Beautiful lake. The composition is excellent, including the lake, the trees and the summit at the same time. The result was great, congratulations and regards from Brazil!

He,he,he! I knew that photographers have the same problems in Montana as across the border, in Alberta: black cat on the white snow, right? What do you give up?
Seriously, for such occasions HDR is the solution if you don`t want to choose between having details on the snow and plugging the trees into the darkness.
Of course, you can do the blending manually or using specialized software, as it fits you. For larger areas, the manual work is even better than the specialized software.
Maybe you want to give it a try:)

When I see this photograph, I feel the one side of rich nature besides the big city in the United States.
It's suprised to be able to see the snow in late september a bit. It feels so fresh for me seeing trees that tower straight, lake with clear water and mountain with steep bare rock.
Thanks for sharing!

The place seems to be very beautiful in winter! Like the fine reflections in the water of the snow capped mountains. Vertical format looks good & I echo Ngy's words of this beauty being accentuated by use of a wider lens.

Hello Peter !
Good picture. I love it mainly because we rarely see landscapes pictures taken in a vertical format and your pictures just prove it is great (mainly in mountains areas where you need to show the vertical side of the place !).
I don't know whether the the picture is blur because of shaking, set up, focus... And the snow on the foreground is a bit overexposed (metering options ?).
Well done anyway as it makes we want to go to Montana !
