Photographer’s Note

After posting this from home and then seeing it on my monitor at work and reading the critiques, I thought I would take another try at this one. I turned up the brightness about 2/3 EV and used only 10% contrast this time along with a closer cropping.

Horses are an integral part of life in Montana. The wide open spaces are often home to herds, where wildness and freedom reigns. It's been a hard winter here and this day, while mild by Montana standards, was still biting cold with winds gusting over 40 MPH. Blowing snow and ice made it difficult to look into the wind.

Hi Ned, hmm, the horse is still very unsharp and dead centered. Otherwise this could have been a great picture. I like the tail in the wind. Yours, Jan

Hey Ned - you have captured the essence of a "Wild Spirit" here, truly! I am particularly fond of wild horses, living not 5 min away from a herd, so for me, this evokes emotion. I love it. It does lack some clarity, but you have done well with the brightness. Thanks for sharing this.

I like this shot, possibly my favorite shot of yours, not because its technically brilliant (it might be im not qualified to say) but because I think it captures a moment.

I've never seen a wild horse, and I imagine it being a great sight. So thanks for sharing this with us. I do agree that the horses tail in the wind looks great.
