Photographer’s Note
This (real) scene reminded me of an old Western movie. No diesel these days but nevertheless it might also take you back into some childhood fantasy.
This is my last repost for a while ... new things to come, but I always liked this one but was not satisfied with the previous.

I like this shot, your panoramic crop emphasises the power and movement of the train.
Good one.

Good WS on your original version. It is always interesting to see how "tourists" look completely different around compared to "natives". I live in a small town in the Central Valley, California and trains these passes every moment through our town. They block the traffic, pollute, whistle all through town (even in the middle of the night). It never would occur to me to take a picture of this public nuisance. After your picture I will reconsider my position.

Hi Barbara,
Good panorama shot, the moving locomotive has been very well captured. I only wish you could have captured the motion somehow...but then i would be nitpicking :)

Hi
Nice one, very colorful, in a great scenery.
Before reposting the picture you could have taken off the wires - it's quite disturbing.
Take care

Hi Barbara,
Excellent shot of the engines on wide open American scenery. And the repost is certainly improvement. Just a bit pity you missed the S of Santa Fe.

Comparing this with the original, I see a huge difference. This is what a good crop can do. You eliminated all the superfluous, unnecessary stuff that not only didnt help your compo but made a negative impact. Im of the opinion that anything in a photo that doesnt directly enhance a photo isa negative element in it. As was the road in your original. here the road is gone and we get a fantastic effect of a train speeding through the prairies. Its beautiful.

A very nice image Barbara. I like the way the train stands boldly against a hazy background. The colours are lovely and natural. The image is well framed and I like also how the train has travelled 2/3 into the pic. Very nice work indeed.
Best wishes

Hello Barbara,
A splendid landscape OK: But at the moment you include a colorful subject like this train, the picture gains a lot more. No wonder that this picture pleases. Many thanks - Izzet

Hi, Barbara, just had a look in your excellent gallery.
That's exactly what this one does, take me back to childhood. I always loved westerns and the railroads, not to mention model trains. This is a beautiful, clear panorama with lovely light and shade patches on the hills. I love the way the train is surging into the photo from the left. I don't agree about the wires, they're very unobtrusive, and there's just enough of the 'S' on the Santa Fe. The sunlight on the engine contrasted with the shade on the hills is very effective. Well cropped, too.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello Barbara
Very good composition all in horizontal lines, even the electricacl lines are participating for once giving a positive note to a photo.
Good soft colors and I just notice that the train is lit faceside by the sun

Hello Barbara!
Great climate created byt his colorful train, exactly like in wild west on westerns. And those American plains - I love them!
Keep it up!
Jarek.

Hi Barbara,
Beautiful lonely look at this iron horse filling up the great plains landscape. Beautiful muted pale blue sky coming over the mountains and announcing a change in the weather this orange beauty moves steadily east.

hello barbara
i take your side (against peter) here: this one is a cutie... excellent background for this shot: takes me right down the wild-wild west lane (feeling). in comparison to the original shot, the panorama crop enhances the feel of movement here greatly. good work!
with warm regards,

Barbara,
I do love this kind of scene when driving through part of the Arizona Desert with some mountain backdrop. It does take us back in time somewhat to the Western movies day. I like this one with the more green surrounding versus the more desert surrounding we see more in the movie. I work in the Environmental engineering firm, BNSF is one of our client, so I have many of these type of pictures from all over the states.
