Winter sunset Photo

Photographer’s Note

I live in Northern California, where our winter season is wet and green. This past winter, I spent a week in Idaho and one evening we were treated to these lovely sunset colors, with various shades of pink and purple. The reflections off of the snow and the bare trees made for a magical moment.

Hello William,

Indeed the pink and purple colour at these sunset are very pleasant.
The snow get a other colour through these extra colour of the sky.
Good perspective and depth, lovely mountain landscape.
You show us an excellent picture with a wonderful subject.
Sharpness and clarity are superb.

Hi William,

The colours are very beautiful and immediately stand out, but this photo's got more going for it too. The landscape is very interesting - it seems like the villages are just perched on top of a giant snowbank, or maybe a cloud. Maybe it's just an optical illusion but it looks to me like the mountains are almost at lower elevation than wherever the photo was taken from? (Or else I'm just crazy heh). But yeah, I'm liking the lavendar colour snow and the view with great depth of two different villages mountains and a roof of pink sky.

Beautiful colors .. really amplified by the way the paint the snow .. tremendous sense of dimension .. nice sharpness .. the branches can be such a pain with that and these are wonderful .. take care, John

Lovely winter light in a setting not unfamiliar!
The sunset pastels create the atmosphere and the low light over the snowy fields sets the mood...
A balanced composition and the naked trees create depth in the frame while the road nicely follows the diagonal!

Hi Bill,
Lovely winter mood, very refreshing to see in such hot summer day. I like the soft texture and pastel tone of pink and light purple. the dorment tree branches frame the photo very nicely. Compositionally it seem to lake a little something in the middle ground to hold our vision, I think. Though I'm not sure what.
