Photographer’s Note

When time is on our side, we love to "red road it", which in our terms means staying off the big freeways and driving the less travelled roads that traverse the quiet countryside. We came upon this old abandoned farm house along one of the backroads in southern Idaho State. As I let my mind wander, I can imagine a busy family trying to make a living and raising their family here. Filled with memories, yet left to decay and eventually disappear from history, places like this have an attraction for me. And needless to say, are fine photographic fodder.

It reminds me of 'Little House on the Prairie'! Certainly the family living here would have lived the same kind of life as the Ingalls. The light is very gentle and the autumn colours complement the tones of the old wood. You certainly find some hidden gems on the backroads.

What a nice picture , even we can get a feeling of sadness when we see such abadoned farmhouses . The framing and perspective are excellent , and the tonalities are superb : I like a lot the golden grass in the fore ground .

Although you won't find much of that in my gallery, these old, run-down farmhouses are definitely one of my favorite subjects. A tip of the hat to you, as you're a real pro at capturing their looks and essence. This one is no exception, colorful and intensely nostalgic, love it! Have a great day, I'll be seeing ya.

I too enjoy these subjects. My wife often says I have a passion for old wood, everything from old buildings to tree stumps. Anyway this is a pleasing shot of the old farm house. I especially like the warm tones to the FG grasses and the fall colour.

This building certainly does have some old world charm to it especially with the slanting veranda. The long grass accentuates the abandonded feel and contrasts well with the wood.

These images of old deserted farmhouses have a very haunting effect that draws the imagination back to the days when this was a vibrant home to a hard working family.
The autumn colors go very well with the decaying landscape and the blue sky harkens back to happier days.

Almost a ruin, a pity when this would disappear, this do think to our family in Canada after WAR I, around 1920.
I had two uncles in Canada in Ontario
Very nice picture, we look at to a wonderful and real picture.
Lovely colourfully and nice daily life shot.

Abandoned, but still beautiful, excellent example of rural architecture, perfectly fit in the environment! Simple but great framing, the "central" composition, was ideal in this case! Flawless light managment, beautiful colours! Congratulations!

I can only imagine the story of those who lived there once. beuatiful rich colors and tone, soft light. the golden foreground of weed adds much natural element and contrast the barn very well, beautiful sky lovely clouds across the sky. toutes tes dernières photos me plaisent beaucoup avec leur teintes chaudes et celle-ci, si j'étais peintre, nul doute que je la coucherais sur une toile.
Nette et aux lumières douces, elle apporte le calme de l'abandon.
Très naturelle dans ses couleurs.

i really enjoy your pics of these old homesteads. all the work and love that has gone into these structures and the stories they tell. now collapsing back into the earth.
i plan to photograph some of the old barns in my area when i return to canada this summer. they are all slowly but surely disappearing especially now that they are no longer needed to store hay.

A fine classical composition showing the lonely atmosphere, where the dry grass has taken over where feet used to run...
