Maui Beach

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I looked over all the pictures from Hawaii before our trip last week and was amazed that for such a beautiful place the shots seemed almost bland in most cases. When we arrived I understood some of the problem. The landscape is almost monotonous in that it is all green with little other colors except the sky and water. In this shot I converted it to black and white using the Red Channel image. Without the color, the shape of the trees combined with the shape of the mountains and lines of the beach could be appreciated.
This shot which looked like a typical snapshot of a beach becomes more interesting with desaturation. |

Absolutely right, those bland old colour photoraphs can look all washed out. Then just a bit of imagination and what do you have, a lovely black and white image that conveys much more then the washed out colour one.
Excellant choice and lovely composition

Hi Roger. I like this image. It has a feel of a 1950's type beach scene. Maybe it's the beach umbrella / parasol that gives that impression.
Nice B&W conversion. Excellent shades and tones.
I've wanted to go to Maui for ages - primarily to watch the Mercedes golf championship which is played at Kapalua G&CC. Maybe one day.....!
Best wishes, Paul.
