Red Dirt - Waimea Canyon
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Waimea Canyon : Kauai - The dirt in this area is rich in iron which gives the dirt the red color. You can even buy Red Dirt shirts, hats, and other items.
Post Processing
-Improved Red color
-Sharpened foreground
-Blurred Background
The POV on this photo is the best the area would allow, and this is a little 3 foot fall from a spring. Moving to the front offers nothing to the foreground and places weeds in front of the "falls". The rule of thirds was intentionally ignored here so as to allow the sky to be blurred to offer a surrealistic feel. I have posted a rule of thirds crop in the workshop area, it seems to hinders the effect of the photo. Sometimes rules are made to be ignored. |

Hi Darrell
I have not been there but if possible I would have moved to the left to get the waterfall in full. Also I think the rule of thirds would work well here in that the horizon could be pushed up so that the land is at least two thirds of the image. You have given equal weight to the sky and then blurred it so why not just eliminate most of it. I think you are on the right track.

Hi Darrell, this is not a splendid image, it's a little out of focus or blurred, at least no good than your previous, but nature here is interesting and beautiful, and even if you have a bit mistake the photo it is still good in order to appreciate the beautiful river, its waterfall and the rocks around it, compliments but next time take care the composition and the quality of your shots :-)
Ciao

Out of all these pics, I like Altered image #2, the one where you applied the rule of thirds. I think I understand what you were trying to do here, but like Phil said, the sky is taking too much out of the picture, and the blur is not all that great, the clouds became way too bright. On the other hand I love the colors of the rest of the picture, the ground, waterfall, greens...I think you're on the right track too :D
