Surf's Up!

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Early one morning, Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, Hawai'i
My wife and I got up early one morning, put on our wading shoes, got the cameras, and roamed Waikiki Beach. After shooting Diamond Head and other scenics I started to look for patterns and other details in the soft light as walked down the beach. About 100 yards southeast of The Royal Hawaiian Hotel I came across a surfing lesson. Three people had contracted with one of the kiosks on the beach for some lessons and rides. They practiced paddling, getting up on the board, and the proper stance before going into the water. I thought the whole scene was rather humorous and this one guy had such a serious look on his face. "Hay dude - surf's up! Cowabunga!" |

An unusual post for you John. The early light has given a wonderful quality to the image and you have excellent depth with plenty to see in the bg. The novice surfer seems to be posing for you. Well done

Hi John,
This popped up in random and I really couldn't resist this hysterical shot!! The expression is pricelss and only yoiur good light management captured it against the backlighting.
And yet everybody has a learnhis eagerness to try something new - there is really nothing quite like the thrill of acceleration when one gets on a wave.
BTW, Did you see Steve Siren's photo in Outdoor Photography? Looks like he took it right around the TE meeting.
