This photo is dedicated to Arnie McNally (arnie). His photo entitled Honolulu shows this portion of the harbor, taken from his cruise ship balcony. In my critique for that photo, I wrote, "This is Honolulu from an angle I have not experienced." Imagine my surprise when I found this in my archives, taken of the same general area, complete with a docked cruise ship.
This photo was taken from the observation deck of the 10-storey Aloha Tower which has a commanding view of the Honolulu harbor. The tower was built in 1926 as a fitting welcome for the boatloads of tourists arriving at Honolulu Harbor. In the 1920s and 30s, passenger arrivals, dubbed Boat Days, were lively celebrations that often involved the entire community. Many locals even left work early to take part in the festivities.

It is a great view indeed, with the masts in fg and vast coverage of the harbor and nature behind it. Very nice colors and details.

Excellent view of Honolulu bay. This is a lovely, interesting and effective presentation of this characteristic nice water and town scenery. Your composition is well balanced and elegant, the perspective and the background details fill the frame and delight the viewer. Clarity is superb, excellent colors and superb sky.
Very well done.
I'm glad to hear that the you like my new lens. I like it as well.

Yes nearly the same shot, nice colours and cloud formation. At the time you this shot I was counting down the days to early retirement from Kelloggs on the 30th June 2007 after 34 years service.

The bay and town in an excelent view from a high point, Mutrat.
Its obvious you hadn't had any other choice but to include parts of the vessel anchored in FG, but anyway there is a good sight of the other objects.
DOF and clarity well collected and a stunning smooth sea on picture.

a comprehensive, interesting and pleasant view over the busy harbor of Honolulu. I love ports and always find them interesting but in this case have to wonder about the natural beauty sacrificed for the sake of the tourist industry. There's amazing depth and clarity, a balanced composition with a vivid description. I like very much how you dealt with the strong light, colours and contrasts, rendering this busy and luminous view so relaxing. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
PS Thank God there was no electricity cut yesterday, we kept our heaters going and the weather, although still very cold, was much better today:)
