Photographer’s Note

Pe'epe'e Falls, Wailuku River State Park, Hilo, Hawai'i

No, it is not Pee Pee Falls it is pronounced "Pay-a Pay-a" Falls. These falls are just above a spot known as the Boiling Pots a place where cooling lava formed two cauldrons in the river bottom and the water rushes and swirls like a boiling pot of water. It was beginning to rain when I captured this image, hence the distant haze, but what really caught my attention was the African Tulip Tree in the foreground and the falls in the background. I thought this made a very nice image even though there was a cement wall well behind the top of the fall. This fall complex is about 2 miles up the road from Rainbow Falls and the little sister at Rainbow Falls.
