Glass Sand

| We were directed to a "glass sand beach" on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. There were many small bits of polished glass, and I took this shot with magnifiers screwed onto the from of my standard lens. The origin of the glass is as interesting as the shot. A nearby cemetary was built on top of an old dump, which was being exposed and washed away by the ocean. At the edge of the ocean were engine blocks, chains, and garbage of all types. An environmental tragedy giving rise to beautiful beach glass. |
