An unknown waterfall along The Road to Hana, Maui, Hawai'i.

After a long day on the Road to Hana my wife and I were stopping at the few waterfalls that had water. We were not able to stop at most of the waterfalls on the way to Hana because there was no place to park so we making the stops late in the afternoon. The light was not the best for capturing the falls I did my best. At this waterfall I forgot to take a GPS reading so I could identify the falls when I got home. None of the waterfalls along the Hana Road were marked with a sign and the map scale that I was using made it difficult to precisely locate your position. So, we just have another pretty waterfall in paradise.

John,
Great long exposure! The long exposure gives the waterfall a look of volume and energy. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF.

Asa

Hi John,

Fantastic fall. Good picture. I have one downstream in Malaysia. Maybe you can give me some comment.

Thank you

Adam

hi john

nice water movement here. some fine details in the trees too. seems a little bright at the top, but it's not too distracting. well done!

John,

I think this is a fine shot, detail and color and focus are all nice. I also know what you mean about the places to park and see the sights, we also missed several.

Hello John,
This is another fine image that you posted. I know that the lighting wasn't perfect, but it is still a very nice photo. One thing that I have tried in midday light is to stack a 3 stop neutal density filter with a circular polarizer (if the sun is at the correct angle, like it looks like it is here). This greatly reduces the glare and slows down the motion of the water. I will post a photo sometime soon where I used this technique for a midday shot.
Good job!
Stan

Whatever problems the light was causing is not evident here. The long shutter speed has given just the effect I like and there is no sign of oe. The inclusion of the little sprig of vegetation bottom right works very well in your composition, both for added depth and to anchor the stream.

Hi John,

Lovely exposure on the flowing water. The light might be a little harsh but still a very sharp photo. TFS!

Hello John,

I think you made the most of the light. The only area in the frame where "less than perfect light" is apparent is on the dark rock on the upper right. It's minimal and is not the main focus of the scene anyway. You framed the falls well and the amount of exposure was perfect for a subtle silky water effect.

I will be visiting Maui in April and may have to trade notes with you for a photo strategy.

Regards,
Doug

Hi John!
Good shot of this waterfall and well done with the exposuretime.I like your POV and composition with the branches in the bottomn right cocrner.
Maybe with a bit more contrast it will look better,so I tried a workshop.

Hi John,
A beautiful photo of paradise. By looking at it I don't understand why you complain about the light, as you did a great job with it. It's amazing how you did avoid any oe.
The motion blur on the falling water produces a very nice effect.
I know already of your preference for low saturation and contrast and Most of the times I like that, but maybe here you could have saturated a little bit more, like Leo did in his WS.
Regards, José.

Hi John,
Had to laugh at your note, because my wife and I experienced the same frustration on the road to Hana a few years ago - both in trying to find spots to park and identifying the falls. Despite the afternoon conditions, your exposure level is just fine here and I like the result of your slow speed at 1/6 seconds. Despite the water, the surrounding hillside looks very dry. Well captured.
